Tune on a mostly stock SS?

Thinking of getting a mail order tune from Jannetty but my car is mostly stock. Manual car with a cold air intake and 3:91's.

Any first hand experience with adding a tune to a car with basic mods like this?
Did you think the upgrade was worth it?

Really don’t need a tune with just CAI and 391 with a manual, same thing.

I got a trifecta tune with my mostly stock V6 in similar configuration. I would say it pepped it up a bit and changed the exhaust tone, but made only a little hp difference. Dynod at 265 hp.

I disagree with you 'don't need it.' Here's a few reasons why you should get one:

1. You want it. There are ZERO mods you NEED! Nuff said.

2. See # 1.

I have an Auto trans so I got a nice trans tune with the package from JRE. I suppose the manual trans doesn't give you any other options. I also got an AFM del. I also only had a CAI and muff del. I'm in CA so Gassum Nukem has us by the balls. But I love the tune. That's my 2 cents.

I’ll agree to that.

What about just headers with hi flow cats and a cold air...? Will a mail order tune suffice? Didnt mean to over step the OP, just wondering...

That’s just what I did with mine. The tune works great.

Had my 2010 SS M6 with Doug Thorley shorties, hi flo cats, Borla S axelback, and CAI, Inc cold air w/scoop dyno tuned by New Era in Rochester, NY. Made 405 before tune, and 417/419 after. Was a mild tune so not much HP gain but throttle response and drivability was like night & day.

Your speedo is probably off with the new gears no? That would drive me nuts. Add a set of headers and then get a tune. Then it will be worth it.

If you were replying to me, then no, speedo is calibrated for the 3:91's. They're GM gears I had installed by a dealer back in '14 and the speedo calibration was part of the kit.

I would at least invest in headers before any tuning. You'll get a lot more out of it. And really, I'd go with a proper dyno tune.

Oh. nice. If that is the case, I think a tune would help but for the price, it would be more worthwhile to invest the money in other things. I wouldn't really invest in a tune until you install headers, if you have plans on doing that.

A tune will net you some hp, make your car more efficient, Might even increase your mpg... But its not necessary with just gears and a CAI.
