The couple times I've had to recharge my AC, I had to take it to a shop and have them use an AC machine to get it to accept the refrigerant. Took me about half a day to R&R the compressor and clean out the system.

I pulled the passenger fender liner and used a 24" extension to get a butterfly impact on the bolts. There was one that had to wrenched out.

Is this an ac compressor replacement or an ac compressor clutch replacement? There used to be some links to the clutch itself on here and I think you can replace the clutch without opening the system.

As of right now, the only thing I can see is that the clutch would not engage. I did just buy a 40$ ac charge thinking it was that, but I was mistaken.

I wouldn't be looking at the compressor replacement until it is properly diagnosed. If anything is wrong the clutch won't engage or at least won't stay engaged.

If your not positive its your clutch get on Amazon or Ebay and buy a gm AC clutch connector pigtail and run a 12V 10A+ DC source to it-polarity won't matter. If it engages its good and you will have to start trouble shooting. If it doesn't engage they aren't to hard to replace on most cars-the Camaro is probably a PITA due to its location-no freon removal involved.

There is a pressure switch that tells the compressor to turn on and off. Make sure it is working.

Thanks everyone. Thankfully it's nice and cool this week in Chicago. So nice tho to have the AC and having a daily. I usually just turn the ac on when I'm stopped. Hate sitting at a light with the windows down. Running no cats is no bueno even with e85.

That compressor from Rock Auto is a perfect fit. Comes prefilled with oil. I just installed mine on Monday.

Its a genuine GM unit I have one my Camaro

All the shop had to do is drain my refrigerant which they reused and install the new one.

Air is still ice cold 4 years later
