Top Gear though? Ive been watching since 1981, I bet you didnt know it started even before that in 1977.
Ive had friends lend them cars, work on productions and drink with all 3, they are actually very down to earth blokes.
But as a UK resident I also know that Clarkson makes a living from being outspoken, he is often very wrong about cars he reviews and some of his political views fall deeply into the right wing populist folder.

Using Clarkson as a reference is like using Hulk Hogan as a reference, they say things to get attention and remain relevant, not to make a difference.

Anyway, back on topic - Clarkson's position has always been he hates EVs. Even if he drives a great one thats not going to change, as hating on them sells more newspapers, and thats what hes trying to achieve.
IIRC the early shows are referred to as “Old” Top Gear and they had a female host if I recall.

It might surprise you we do get some UK stuff here. Of course as I said Top Gear is the most watched TV show in the world, but the older episodes used to air on the precursor to what is now Motor Trend Network in America - Discovery Theater.

Our PBS channels also used to show the old Are You Being Served and of course Benny Hill…… my grandfather and I loved watching him together when I was a kid lol

And honestly, more than a few kids in America to this day can recite the entire Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Word for word.

You may notice I also use MP’s Spam song when someone posts spam on this forum.

Think about the Buick T-types, GN's. They could have been the go-to refined sporty car for yuppies, if given a good next-gen chassis... and not just for the Buick faithful. Most of the EV's talked about here fall into that yuppy car category. It's been said before, oranges versus apples to a hot rod crowd.

I think gm's EV Equinox is going to need to be accepted as a king of econoboxes. If incentives can't be sustained, I doubt it will be. There was a recent story for a 20 buck subvented lease Leaf.
yeah. That or the cool buick or trans am with a worse headed same V6turbo or 454SS as examples were too high priced for my income at the time not to mention dealers overpricing like all cool cars.
I do think the EV Equinox could be that depending on price and including common options seen on Nissan Toyota Honda standard.

Availability to charge for long trips is a good thing in the right direction.

A little over $34k. The sticker is $45k.

Not a review, but a “first bullet dodged” sorta thing. A review will come after I’ve had some time with it.

So, going in my first concern was “no Apple CarPlay and all our devices in the family are Apple”. Similar concern with the Tesla, but that was quickly corrected with an accessory. With the Equinox EV it’s actually even simpler. My iPhone connects via wireless Bluetooth as soon as I enter the vehicle. So I can just keep it in my pocket. And I can do things like say “Hey Siri…play Marcus Miller” and the system reacts super fast and brings up music from my iPhone, complete with meta data, as shown in the photo. Waze is part of the Google apps library, though I haven’t installed that yet. So between those things, my major driving interactions with CarPlay are settled. Easy Peasy.

I think that I mentioned earlier in the thread that Lucid has moved their Detroit HQ into our building. Well, today they are holding some sort of event. I may have to go down there and see if I can bum rush it and get some good intel.

Here you can see that they are queuing up for drives in the Lucid Air. There’s also a Lucid Gravity SUV backed into a parking spot with its tailgate and frunk open.

Assuming you mean the Tesla. Didn’t have to do anything with the Equinox. Siri covers the void left by lack of CarPlay.

For the Tesla, I installed a 7” touchscreen instrument cluster that supports CarPlay and Android Auto. Fixed both of my wife’s complaints about the car in 1 stroke. She didn’t like not having an IC in front of her and she didn’t like not having CarPlay.

BTW - If you go to the configurator you can hear the fake exhaust, which is actually pretty good except for the start up. They made it sound like you're starting a turbine engine

Yeah, I don't really understand this car. We've all established BEVs can be fast and this one desperately tries to bring in the sensory experience (Fratzonic "exhaust".... um what?).... but, I don't know if you can sell the muscle car gear heads on this in much the same way that automakers are struggling to sell BEV trucks to loyal truck buyers for obvious reasons.
