How Rare Is My Car?

Okay, I've heard it said there are no stupid questions, but let's test that theory.
I've been trying to determine just how unique my car is in the ZL1 hierarchy.

She's a 2015 ZL1 Coupe, M6, with sunroof and Recaro seats. I've narrowed her down a bit by color and transmission, but I can't find any info on how many went out with the Recaros.

Assistance much appreciated!

From what has been told here is there is no break down on the number of cars with the recaro seats. I had a 2015 also at one time and mine had the same seats but all that is broke down is the colors, tranny, verts and hardtops. That is all you can get. Just know there were not that many with the recaro seats. I hope that helps but I know that is not what you wanted to hear.

I just drove 13 hours during the Labour Day weekend across the MidWest. Never saw 1 ZL1. I did see 5th Generation Camaros, mainly 6 cylinder models which were needed to support the development of the 1LE, ZL1 and Z28.

You have a pretty rare car. Enjoy it by getting out to drive it.

The convertibles did not have them and could not have them. I believe by 2014 and 2015, the ZL1 hardtop did have Recaros standard.

Not all 5th gen ZL1s. Fairly rare and expensive option for them. All 6th gens ZL1s came with Recros.

You're right... and for the early ZL1s there was no option either.

The seat was different from the SS and I was thinking they were Recaro but they were not. They were also the most comfortable seat of any Camaro IMHO.

Yeah only available in '14 and '15. Limited option on the ZL1 and 1LE and standard in all Z28s.

And I agree, much more comfortable than the standard seats.

GM will have a way to track the ZLs with Recaros from the factory, since the option will be listed on the purchase order. Whether we will hear of an official breakdown is another matter.

In terms of the ZL1, for '14 and '15 your car isn't particularly rare since other units were made with similar options. In terms of all 5th gen ZL1s, yes your car can be considered rare in terms of the option, as not all ZL1s were available with the racing seats. In considering the production count as with other cars, your car would be considered rare. It may not translate into a resale appreciation, however, for awhile.

Oh, I'm not looking for resale value. I plan to keep this car. For a long time!

If you can then I highly recommend keeping the ZL. 5th gen ZLs are very special, as they can match or exceed performance from other cars with higher prices. The appearance of the ZLs shouldn't offend either.

In reality our cars will eventually appreciate, but due to the glut of cars on the market it will take more time for us to go higher in value, especially when you compare them to the 60's muscle cars. The sixties muscle cars are special and rare, and their appreciation rate may not ever be challenged. At least you get a sense of that feel with the 5th gens.

GM has a way of tracking every RPO they used on your car. This is simply done for logistics to order enough RPO parts/assemblies during production and service replacement GMSPO support, and future sales planning (keep option or drop it, etc.). But GM does not do breakdowns for public consumption past the gross sales. In other words, model, color, body type, drivetrain (engine/trans) and mostly special edition options or models like ZL1, Z/28, Carbon Flash, Transformer, etc.

What they don't do, is allow the public to see how many Recaro optioned 2012/2013 ZL1s were out there. Or how many were made with the alcantarra steering wheels, sunroofs, etc. I recall back in the 4th gen days, and before, they wouldn't tell you how many T-top cars were made or were like my pewter SS with the remote multi-CD player, with 6 speed and solid top. I know it was rare to be optioned like that, but nobody could/would ever nail it down. And no solid-top breakdown either. They were either listed as convertible or hardtops (Solid+T-top) same as today.

Still have to know your RPOs and standard equipment though, especially buying a used car. It's what's not on a car that should be there that would concern me more. For example, a 2015 ZL1 hardtop that had standard buckets and not Recaros without solid documentation would be concerning (2012-2015 convertibles all had standard buckets). Chances of that being a factory goof is extremely small. If you weren't aware, you could get fooled. And many have when they don't do their homework.
