With the measurements shown for the compressed slave to bellhousing face and the pressure plate fingers to engine block face, I would disassemble and look for the issue. The slave is the easiest. Make sure it is the correct slave, check the back side areas for any obstruction etc and reassamble to see if the dimension changes. If the dimension does not change do the same with the pressure plate and clutch to see if it is there.

With only .008 removed the issue is either incorrect part(s) or and obstruction. I ended up shimming .085 to .150 on three different clutches on same car. Each time it needed shimming.

You could also try reinstalling the original parts to see how they measure. This may give you a clue to which area is the issue.

Took everyone's advice, and checked all this again by re-installing all the old bits. Note the measurements labled "OLD". This resulted in .155" gap, which seems right in spec. Then realized the old slave cylinder went in a little further. So I tore the two slave cylinders apart. The new one did not compress as far in as the old one. I pushed on it a bit harder than what I did while it was in the car, and it popped in about 1/4" further!

Glad this forum is here to bounce ideas around. I would have had major issues if I just went and made that spacer.... gosh. So thank all of you!

My gap is measuring a bit tight, but I'm just gonna send it! Hope that the new clutch will wear in a bit and I should be OK. Whew!

Thanks for reporting the outcome. It's always frustrating when threads like this go dark.

When I get around to installing my new clutch, I'll definitely measure the old one before removing it, now that I've read this.
