Pedders C/O's and Camber Plate Install
Got the Pedders 164086 C/O's with the Remote Reservoir and the Camber Plates. Nice looking stuff, but the installation instructions are not exactly explicit. Much of the Pedders install Video's have gone away from the JusticePete era, and there is some stuff on the C5 Site but not alot. Pedders does not even have a Phone # for Tech help, just EMail.
I want to be sure I get it right, so if anyone can weigh in I appreciate it. First, they seem significantly shorter that the stock strut (1st Pic). Assume that does not matter. 2nd - Assembly Sequence - The instructions say that the 3mm Spring compression is preset as shipped, so the (2) Coil Locking Rings should be in the correct position to provide a 3mm compress when tightening the top Strut Rod Nut. It is not from what I found when I installed the Camber Plate and tightened down the top nut. So I assume as shown in the 2nd Pic you place the Spring Top Hat onto the Coil, then the Camber Plate, then install the Nut and torque it down "tight". Then adjust the (2) Lock Rings to get 3-5mm compression on the Coil. It is then ready to install to the car and the Camber Plate is bolted to the (3) holes you drill into the Shock Tower. I assume the Silver Ring is not used, and is intended for installation w/o the Camber Plates. In fact, nothing is used from the Stock Strut, even the top Hat and Lock Nut. 3rd - Ride Height Adjustment. Not sure where to start in setting the gap between the Upper and Lower Lock Rings. It is shipped with about a 3/4" gap, and some info out there from Lingenfelter says 12mm, another post shows 52mm - so it's all over the place. Maybe just set it on the high side and adjust to get desired ride height? 4th - Camber Adjustment. There is no torque spec on the (4) Screws you use to adjust the Camber, I assume "tight", but my Alignment guy broke similar screws on my BC C/O's with Moreno Plates on my other Camaro. I believe in Torque specs. Any help is appreciated. |

Been awhile since I installed my coilovers but I might be able to help...
2. Believe you're correct. Trying to remember my install, but I remember not using most of the stock pieces, just needed to use the top nut in my case (BC coilovers and Pegasus camber plates). Believe you want to make sure you tighten/torque the top nut while holding the coilover shaft with an Allen key (so it doesn't spin) when it comes to coilovers. 3. I would set them to about what the stock struts are minus however much you want to lower and go from there. If the springs are stiffer the car won't drop as much but you should be fairly close. As you probably know you will need to time the bushings in question when making height adjustments too. An easy driveway method is to jack up the knuckle juuuust enough to lift the car/chassis then tighten, drive around a bit so the car settles, and see how it looks. 4. I have Pegasus camber plates and they told me 18 ft/lbs, and based on your pics I'm thinking they're of similar size (they're roughly 1/4" thick shaft). As per the Pegasus guy (Chris?) I tightened them to 18 ft/lbs, then checked them after every drive, retightening back to 18 ft/lbs as needed until they no longer moved/loosened. I still check them every so often but they've been fine for a few years now, but did need to retighten two or three times.

Unrelated, but curious. Maybe you could throw on a scale. What's the weight difference between stock and the coilovers?
