P0523 code
Ok I got this code this evening, P0523 seems to be reading high oil pressure, but the gauge reads a big 0, any thoughts? I got no warnings that came up about low oil pressure. All help appreciated

I would have it towed to a dealer and have them look into it . I wouldn't driving it unless you want to create a paper weight . Hopefully you haven't damaged the engine already. And hopefully its just a bad sensor .

The oil pressure sending unit is a little a pain to replace behind the engine next to the firewall, a recent replacement by another member on this forum in a thread shows good useful info to start with, as I would replace that then worry about the oil pump....as high oil pressure a ? most likely bad sensor.

The CEL came on 2 blocks from home and dropped oil pressure, I coasted into the driveway and pushed into the garage. I did not have any warnings appear on the DIC, I heard no knocking or lifters. Hopefully just a sensor.

Same came here last tuesday and is still on.
- Oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel did not come on when the engine was running. - I stopped and looked at the oil, ok. - No extra noise. - I drove 12 mi home carefully and looked at the log.Driven normally since then. Oil pressure send unit will be changed next tuesday. Btw.Which sensor triggers the oil pressure warning light on the instrument panel ? Last edited by chevy pilot; 09-19-2024 at 12:25 AM. |

FYI on this code - The description of this code is Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit High Voltage. This code sets when the PCM sees an open/High resistance or a short to voltage. The way I test this is to disconnect the sensor connector and with the ignition on test the gray wire for 5 volts, Black wire for ground and the Tan/White wire for less than 4.8 volts. A poor ground on the Black wire will cause a high signal voltage on the Tan/White wire. The Engine Control Module provides ground to the oil pressure sensor. In most circumstances the oil pressure sensor has failed and is the fix. I highly recommend if your gonna do your own diagnostics/testing to get a power probe and learn how to use it properly. you can do some damage to components/circuits if you dont know how to use it.
