Got mine off Amazon, paid $1600 for both. I’m still not understanding if I should use them or not. I’ve heard of a redesign but is the redesign the reason for the 1-1/2” longer piston shaft? That’s the answer I can’t find. I did see a picture of some take offs from a 2014 and they are exactly the same BWI struts I bought. But it seems my 2013 take offs are a different number and shorter. What to do????

Whisper1 and VChula, what were the numbers on your struts? Were they BWI.
The ones that are longer that I bought are 22282142 and 143. I’d feel a lot better if those are the ones you put on your ZL1s |

Original BWI 22282142 and 22282143 also had "14111141" underneath (possibly a date or a batch code) Replacement BWI 22282142 has "18304121" underneath, and 22282143 has "19168091" underneath. If you have higher numbers than "14xxxxxx" or "15xxxxxx" on yours, it is a good bet that you have the updated shocks. Also, you can see in the first picture that the newer strut set is taller than the original strut set.

Thank you so much. I guess they are going on this weekend. Then I’ll move to the rear ones. I don’t know how GM gets away with knowing they put out a performance car with subpar suspension. Suspension has always been and should always be part of the safety system of a vehicle. Bad suspension is unsafe yet they just stop producing the strut! A small Company would get sued for that. Looks like BWI is starting to make some struts for us though….

Why would I want coil overs on a ZL1? If I wanted old technology I would’ve saved a lot of money and bought a lesser model. I know…. You can set up coil overs and they run good. But I can drag and street this black b@&$h by pushing buttons. Got coil overs on my 67 c10 that I play with all the time. I just want to drive my Camaro. But yes, the price is terrible but believe it or not, they’ve come down and the rears are around $300 for both. Hopefully a good aftermarket company will start making them.

Parts
Not to hijack the thread, but the forum has documented dozens of parts that are no longer available for our 5th Gen Z's. With the move away from ICE it seems this problem will become acute on many low volume ice vehicles. I would be very hesitant to purchase a Blackwing for this reason. Add in a Brand going under and I think the problem will be accelerated. Lot's of low volume parts on the various Dodge Hellcat variants. The brand will likely be gone in a year and Stellantis is certainly not going to hold parts in inventory. The Demon 170 comes immediately to mind. Lot's of quality issues and already parts replacement delays. Can only get worse. Only hope is that the SMART Act did pass in 2023 and this shortens the window for patent protection and should incentivize third party manufacturers to make small runs of parts where a need exists. Now back to the Strut issue. Can't wait to figure out if the OP's Amazon struts are actually viable. Very confused about the dimension difference.

Magneride is the best suspension for drag racing and track racing just by hitting a button. Of course there is better out there if you want to specialize in one area and dial it in. That’s what makes the ZL1 one of the best “athletes” on the road. If I just wanted to drag, I’d build up an old Vega like I’ve done before. But this car is truly something special with its independent rearend and suspension. I also disagree about Magneride going away. Too many other vehicles out there using it. The aftermarket will get onboard soon enough and make these cars even more impressive than they are already. Another great thing about these gen 5s is you can work on them. It’s not even an hour job to change a strut! There’s not many cars you can do that and also change the exhaust, put headers on, change some pulleys and put a tune in to add stupid power. I love that I can still wrench on my own car and never go to the Stealership! F them. Come on aftermarket!

By the way, I saw even Rock Auto had one of the front struts in stock. They are coming back and once people that have been waiting for them cycle through, the greedy will lower the prices. What we need is another manufacturer to create competition

Have you guys seen this on Ebay Listed as set of 4 shocks with mag ride.
