this is very common at some of the gas stations around here, credit is .10 cents/gal more. but thats the only places upcharge for using your card.

NY ha been doing this for a while and during the Covid non sense it really picked up. Now Every where you go has a tip Jar, and a lot of places don't even list 15 % on the bill it now suggests 20 % and higher.

I have no issue tipping, I'll tip people that typically don't get tips but I don't want to be made to feel like I have to.

I tend to go out to eat a lot, Since Covid a lot has gone down hill, food quality and quantity have gone down and price has gone up and service has gone down hill. I have zero issue tipping well for good service even if they messed up but were trying, but there are times they are rude and obviously don't care and then I don't care to tip well.

Yeah, this has been a thing at gas stations here in Jersey forever. I saw non-gas places implement lower limits on credit purchases, something like $5 for mastercard and visa, and $10 for amex. One time I ordered a few slices for pizza for takeout and ended up leaving without my order because I didn't meet the credit minimum.

This is because currently, it is illegal in all 50 states to charge the surcharge on bank debit cards and pre-paid credit cards.

They still charge my Debit Card the 3%, I'd like to read where it is illegal so I could address it.

It's charged everywhere in Oregon and Nevada on debit cards.

Look up the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. This is a federal law.

"For debit cards and prepaid cards, surcharging is prohibited—even when the card is run as a signature-based transaction without the PIN.

This restriction was implemented by the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The Durbin Amendment refers specifically to debit card transactions."

Maybe so, but that doesn't stop them from charging the surcharge. I guess one could pay a lawyer a buttload of cash to fight a 3% charge on a 12 buck convenience store charge or just pay it and move on..

The FTC enforces it. Just contact them and tell them you have a merchant violating the Durbin Amendment.
