Angry Teenager Attitudes

How do you cope.

My 14 year old boy is a monster. He has no respect for me, my wife or any of our stuff. He stomps around like he's in hell and we're the cause of it. He cusses at me and tells me he wants to go home (he lives with his mother).

What the hell do you do? You can't touch a kid these days or child services shows up... so beating him is out. Though in my day, I would've had a belt on my ass before I said F-you.

Thats really hard. Im sorry you are going through that... it will probably be several years before he appreciates you.

Would you guys consider sitting down with a counselor to get some support and ideas on setting limits, enforcing consequences, improving communication and trying to make it a more tolerable environment for all of you?

It cant be easy to live with all that mess. Best of luck to you.

My dad would make us pull down our pants, crab our ankles and go to town with a leather belt, lol. Needless to say my brother and I never got into any trouble. Kids are treated like "babies" their entire lives now-a-days. I would say put a stern ass whipping on him but then you look at jail time. It is a sad day when the government is allowed more control and "say so" over your child then you are.

My brother is a cop. You can discpline your son. There is a HUGE difference between beating and discpline. Open handed is ok, Close handed is a problem.

well you are kind of screwed.

Thats the sad thing about a divorce.... If you punish your son.... He will run home to mama... and she will let him do as he pleases.... so son will not want to be with you because you actually expect maturity out of him.

It is very sad that kids have gotten that way these days.

One person said BOOT CAMP.... I agree, but he is too young still, and the boot camp for troubled kids is a joke (well in my opinion every boot camp but Marine Corps boot camp is a joke, but thats beside the point).

It would take a wake up call to get to him... but unless mom does the same thing... it wont work.

Now, to make him respect you... he needs to feel like he is in hell... he needs to have nothing for comfort... make him appreciate what you do give him... of course if you do that.. he just wont come visit you.
It is almost a lose-lose

If what your doing know doesn't get respect flip it.
Just catering to his moody whims will not help, kid like boundries, rules and punishment, that shows real love over letting them get away with murder.

Why so many go in and out of jail, they crave the authority they never got at home.

I wouldn't let him in your house anymore till his altitude changes.
Might be hard on you but putting up with it will not change anything.
Wait till he ask to come back.

And since your a parent id have him drug tested, no warning or sign.
Just haul him down there without notice, could be he can hide the pot or what ever from Mom easier or his burn friends are near her. Don't be blind to it, even straight A kids do drugs. I was in the "burnout group" in HS but we dind't have the money or know anyone who could get drugs. It was all the rich popular preppy kids.

With little kids ya take em down to the orphanage and pretend to trade them in. Let em see how many kids would gladly trade places and follow the rules to have parents.

My parents slapped me around when I did stupid things as well. I don't consider myself mentally scarred or anything.

Kids these days don't understand the concept of respect because people are so scared to show their kids that they need to respect them. My parents never allowed me to be disrespectful, if I said something out of line, I got smacked.

Corporal punishment really is not as bad as people try to make it seem. My grandfather smacked my dad around more than I was and he turned out all right.

Of course, at 14 he's getting a bit large to lay across someone's lap for a spanking.
