Spam threads gone wild

Admin, why don’t you give me the ability and I’ll delete the accounts and spam threads. You guys aren’t doing it often so why not let someone who is paying attention do it? Some of these accounts have been active for over a year, why keep them around?

Were it only that easy… I delete as many as 80 of these a day, all with similar names… It takes between an hour and two hours, as you have to go to each individual member page, look in stats to determine how many posts they have, read some of those to determine legitimacy, and then go through the steps to delete all of their posts if found to be a spammer, and then ban them, which can be occasionally done at the same time… I’ll then go into the ModCP, and do an IP search and then find other posters based on the IP, and repeat the process for all names found in there…. This is all in an effort to catch spammers before they post… imagine how it would look if we weren’t “doing it often.”

In the attached online list, there are approximately 86 spammer accounts… Please note the similarity of the name you mentioned to Viktorijmj, and tomorrow or the next there will be another name almost but not quite identical to that, or note the Jeoffroi…. And there are hundreds of these… AI bots, that create account after account etc… or assholes (not me) that create the accounts and set code to respawn, with slightly changed new acct names…

I work on this at least one or two hours a day… hundreds of posts a day, and then we try to keep you guys informed with threads like this, where soft people call me an asshole, while demanding / wanting me to ban him because he’s too soft to quit himself, and too entitled to follow the rules… “you guys” includes me and Mlee and Rad since there is only one admin… We appreciate the “support” without any knowledge of the actions behind the scenes…

There is only ONE Admin "Tran" and if he doesn't even talk to the couple mods he has left then how is he going to give you the ability to do something.

Here’s a small grouping, of “Viktors’s” from one page in a few hours…

I’ve have no idea what we could accomplish if we actually looked at any of this stuff…

Well I stand corrected. Years ago when I was a mod on a site, it wasn’t nearly that complicated to do spam control. My apologies.

Very good point. Unless he owns the rights to the site, why isn’t a different person chosen to be the admin? One who will can communicate with the mods as they are supposed to do.

They banned "JSH" on accident because he posted in a thread asking why is he seeing this crap. Well I assume it was on accident but seems like quite a punishment to be perma banned for asking a question.

Anyhow, if the mods are reading this "JSH" shouldn't have been banned.

Did you manage to grab all the "Off Topic" threads, those are also spam. I report them every time I see them, but sometimes they slip through the cracks I think.

The one I reported the other day the bot was posting every 60 seconds.

Sorry but I don't see that ever happening.

The forum has strict rules regarding sponsorships and vendors. If you want to use the forums to make money for your private business then you must pay to do so. Trying to circumvent those rules, no matter your reasoning for believing it's ok, is grounds for perma-ban.

Over the years, I've seen quite a few other accounts banned for similar infractions. Some providing a lot more contributions to the community than he has and none of been allowed to come back.
