Priming a 2013 2SS 6 speed?
All,
Is there a simple way to prime the car until I have oil pressure w/o firing, like a fuse pull or unplugging something under the hood? I normally don't bother or worry, but life got away from me after putting it up for winter storage LAST year and I never started the car in 2024. Has not run since November of 2023. After a 10 year hiatus, I needed cash so I took on a restoration of a 71 LS5 6 speed Chevelle and simply had no time to really get the Camaro out and enjoy it. The Chevelle is approaching the finish line and I'm anxious to some cruises with my son this year in the Camaro. Pics for kicks. |

I don't see why pulling the fuel pump fuse and turning the motor over would not work, Nice work on the Chevelle. My buddy has an original numbers matching 70 SS 454 4 Speed. I helped rebuild a clone for another friend and it was a lot of fun.

Thanks! I will try that. Do you know if that is under the hood or in the end of the dash?

I BELIEVE that if you floor the gas while cranking, it won't allow it to start

If you do a Google search you can find the complete diagram for every fuse, Also maybe in the owners manual, I believe the injector fuses are under the hood and fuel pump is in trunk.

The fuse for the FPCM is on the passenger side trunk.

Perfect! I cannot get under the hood where it's parked, but the trunk is easy.

The gas pedal method does work… I confirmed it during my new engine oil cooler install, when I primed it about 4-5 times before turning the engine completely over to run. All you have to do is have the key in the ON position, trans in either park or neutral, foot on the throttle all the way to the floor, and hold the gas pedal as you turn the key over ONCE real quick (don’t HOLD the key). The engine will disable the fueling (and maybe spark?) and you’ll hear it crank itself 5 or 6 times before letting off.
I don’t know if you can simply turn the ignition over and over again, with your foot on the gas pedal, after each prime cycle. But I turned my key all the way off and on again, just out of paranoia. |

Nope, it 100% works. I just helped my friends all do their engine oil cooler upgrades/installs, and we primed the new oil coolers/lines with that method. We’d go through about at least 5-6 cycles on each car before letting the engine turn over all the way to run and idle.
