New member ...again

Hey guys! I started looking for a refreshed gen5 2SS 1LE Camaro a little over 4 years ago and found this forum. I joined and spent a lot of time on here researching my dream car. Just before I could go sign the papers at the bank to purchase said dream car, one of my sons totalled my wife's car and I couldn't in good conscience buy the SS I found. So I bought her a car. Now the wife's car is paid off and the hunt resumes. I hope to find a 2SS 1LE with decent miles, but they are a lot harder to find then they were a few years ago. I live in South Mississippi, and am a pipe fitter by trade.

Edit: for grammar

What are the odds I would find one that still has the factory exhaust? I know it's probably almost not existent, but in my mind if it still has the factory exhaust, it would be an indicator that the car hasn't been raced much. Am I wrong in assuming this?

Welcome back to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Yep.Some of the guys DON'T mod the exhaust on their cars, and they do race them quite a bit. So yeah, don't go by that thought. Some of the owners just like to keep them "stock", and are happy with the sound.

What's the best ways to see if it's been raced hard then? I know the obvious is that it's an SS, but I know there are some guys that buy them because that's just what they want. Then they take exceptional care of them and only run them hard every once in a while.

Well it is the affordable road race option of a modern muscle car so it has probably been driven hard at a minimum.

Looking for one with minimal mods would be a good start then just have a little faith that the owner is truthful.

Good Luck in your search.

^^^ This, and check if it has had a ton of suspension mods done to it. That would possibly be one way to see if it has been raced, but then again, you have those "purists" that will leave everything "stock" and run whatcha brung.. And as mentioned, ask the owner, and hope he tells the truth!

Ok, I have a question. I found a 1ss online, that doesn't say anything about being a 1LE, but the 5th digital is a G. Isn't that the number 1 way to tell if its a 1LE? It's priced like a standard 1SS

1LE is a package and not part of the model. I don't think there is anything in the VIN that would designate that.

You would need to get a picture of the tag in the trunk with RPO codes which is what "1LE" is so should be easy to pick it out there.
