If anyone can help Gen 5 purchase
I purchased a gen 5 with a salvage title for $9,500. Its a covertible with a nice clean body with 48,000 miles. It gives me sporadic little misfires at stops. I jist paid the dealership $900 to replace the purge valve and manifold gasket. But still I have this issue. It does not look like it will go away. The plugs are new. This was going on prior so its not a gapping issue with the plugs. And it only has now 52,000 miles so what honestlu would be wrong? I am now going to use a fuel additive more, but I would be suprised if that helps. What scares me is that this may one day become a larger problem. I had already replace the purge valve as it was chattering. The bolt was crossthreaded and the dealer corrected that but also they said the brand new purge valve was stuck open. It was there because it started to stall out after filling up with gas when it was low. And it started to take two times to start after being low on gas and then filled. Then the check engine light went in with sub menu codes which I don'r know what good those do the home mechanic. They were not standard codes and my reasonable mechanic said he did not know and to take to the dealer. Seems a lot of the these 5th gen problems are not straight forward. The car does have an aftermarket MBRP exhaust that was on it when I bought it. I do or want to replace coils only to have the problem persist. And again the car has such low miles I wonder why it has any issue at all. The front end in front of the radiator was cut off and reattached due to the collision that required a salvage title. Before I owned it.

If the dealer diagnosed that issue and what they did didn't fix it. Take it back to them.
Generally, misfires become more noticeable as you accelerate, i.e. if it's misfiring at idle, I would expect it to accelerate like crap. I would not go throwing coils at it, especially if you don't know which one might be bad. Plus, every time I have had a bad coil, I got a misfire code, not to say it can't happen, but never happened to me. You can pull the coil plugs off one at a time while it is idling and see if it runs worse. If there is no change, that is your problem cylinder. Be sure to pull the coil plug not the plug wire going to the coil or you will get a shock. If you want to pull the plug wires while it is running, get some spark plug boot pliers. Given this is now in the for sale section, you might want to start a new thread with something about misfire in the title.
