In a VERY brief synopsis of the gist of the thread, Scott Settlemire, or "Fbodfather", was on the design team of one of the original Camaro's. F body, as it were. I don't pretend to have all the details but, the truth is out there!

But I guess we'd just entered the famed, 2008-9 housing (insert whatever other crisis here) crisis so maybe it wasn't so simple? We just had no idea what was to come. Probably could've used another 'Shunt' by 2020. : /

You totally remove them, from the pump and the firewall, block off the firewall with caps, as there won't be any coolant going into it anymore, install the "U" hose on the water pump, check your coolant level, and call it a day!! Piece of cake..

I finally installed the heater core bypass hose. I’m now getting cold air on the passenger side and just air on the drivers side at the idle.

I’m a bit confused because I thought the heater core bypass would overcome this.

The Freon is good to go.

Ive search and read everything I can get my hands on but I’m still at a loss. One thing I read that seems to fit is a stuck blend door but I can clearly hear the door open and close yet the symptoms point towards a bad blend door which I’ve treated with the bypass.

What am I missing?

PS There’s an internet consensus that freon could be an issue. I’m going to triple dog check that thar’ Freon ‘cause I’m thinking it’s 16 years old and even with no leaks it might, just might, be a bit low because I’ve never needed to service it and report back with my findings to the community.

I've had a broken door for about 4 years now. I do the exact same thing. It seems to be stuck in a warm air position. I have the heater hoses hooked up un the wintertime. In the spring I get my U-shaped bypass hose & install it. With that the ac works as normal. It seems to have become a yearly tradition, LOL. I guess some day I will fix it properly.

I get recall notice post cards, emails, test messages and singing telegrams that continue to follow me around like a crazy ex girlfriend about some idiot key problem but they won’t recall and fix THIS common problem. Go figure.

Like the AFM/DFM lifters. Move along, nothing to see here. Somewhere there's a 50,000 page, redacted document on the afm lifter issue. Some distant GM president in the year 2070 will release this information to the public, under the, Freedom of LS Motors Act.

Here’s my update. Despite my stupidity I’ll share anyway as a cautionary tale.

Did the by-pass. Not a problem but be very aware that you need to refill the coolant carefully as if you just did a flush.

After I did the by-pass there was cold air on the pass side and warm air on the drivers side indicating a possible Freon issue which there was. So I DIY’d with the Freon from the parts store and inadvertently overfilled it (that little dial it comes with is not to be trusted). I took it to a professional HVAC service place to correct and service it and now I have air that’s unbelievably cold from all vents.

Cheers to Camaro5 and all its technical guidance and information.

You do realize, thanks to California, the 'Freon' from the parts store has sealers in it that makes it difficult for a future shop to fix it right the next time, right? It works well when applied but is like bubble gum in the HVAC system. So I'm told.

‘You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave”?

Even if they vacuum it? As in a complete service? People should know about this!
