spring compression tool

Dumb question, but when installing coilovers, am I going to need a spring compression tool for pulling the upper hats off the original struts for install on new coilovers, or do they just unbolt without the springs flying off and trying to kill me?

Smart question actually because I would normally say yes, but in case of stock front and rear struts shouldn't require a compressor, but if you feel the need, some auto stores will rent you one and refund when returned.

Here's a vid that starts right when I remove the front stock springIt'll give you the idea..

Got them off. No biggie at all. Now to deal with the coilovers (Pedders XA). Crap is seriously confusing. Minimal instructions. Found old much more verbose instructions and they're confusing. Ugg... Feeling a little stupid at the moment.
