Borla ATAK catback too loud.

Hello,
I have had the Borla ATAK catback and a long tube headers for a few years now, while I love the sound I wish it was a bit quieter. Anybody with this set up can testify to the sound level
Any modifications I can do to make the sound a bit quieter or deeper? I'd like to keep the ATAK, I'm just wondering if there are any add-ons out there to tune it down.

Thank you in advance.

Big city thunder makes baffles that would work. You could put them in the pipes just before the mufflers.

Replace the X-Section with a Magnaflow.

This for sure!! I had one installed when I was straight piped because it was WAY too loud! It cut the sound down by at least 40% and was good. And it gave it a more deeper growl than the raspy sound the straight pipe made. I liked it. I have a Corsa Sport catback on there now for a few years, it's very loud, and I'm thinking about installing this Magnaflow mid muffler to knock it down some. The sound draws a lot of unwanted attention when you get on it, otherwise I like it cruising and at idle.

You’re scaring me with very loud cause it’s the setup I want. But I believe you said no cats. I’ll run cats.

If you are running HFC's and long tubes, and you get either the Corsa Sport, or Extreme, it's gonna be loud! Especially the Extreme, because the mufflers are shorter than the Sport mufflers. With HFC's, there are only 200 cell, where OEM's are 600 cell, so they won't stop much sound, but a little. I just like to drive my Camaro hard sometimes, but when you get on it, it will wake up the dead from 50 years ago... lol. Cruising it's great, no drone at all! Idle is amazing, loud, but not over the top loud, it gets attention and compliments at the shows, or when you pull into a gas station or convience store for a drink.

Would I be waking the neighbors up at 2am coming home from work slow rolling in. I am a second shifter so I don’t care about startup cause that’s in the afternoon when I leave for work. I also won’t be driving it everyday. I currently have the magnaflow catback that has no mufflers but the muffler style posted in this thread but no headers. About to do heads cam headers and want the corsa zl1 one cause I am also switching to quad tip diffuser.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Do you happen to have a link to the product or a part number? Also, was any welding required for the installation?

I appreciate your input.

I used MF #14468, and it is 2.5 x 12". There is also a shorter one, which would prob be a tad louder. I use the Stainless Band Clamps, and they seal well and clamp tight when properly installed (also use some hi temp sealer).

The clamps allow easy removal and reversal if desired, which actually I did cause I later decided I liked it sounding so mean, and it is not a DD. My car has a Whipple, Blower Cam, LT's, no Cats, and the Borla Atak. That combo makes it absurdly loud and has/had back rap like a shotgun. The M-Flow REALLY quieted it down, and made it OK for a Daily Driver.

But -

I did revert back to the X Section of the Atak system, as my Tuner was able to tune out most of the ungodly Back Rap on decel so I am loving it that way. It sounds wicked and has a nasty idle, and you can hear it a mile away when nailing it.

So really any muffler like the MF that fits in the tunnel WILL quiet it down. So will Hi Flow Cats.

That's the one I have now. If you still have OEM exhaust manifolds and cats on there, or even HFC's, you should be alright leaving in the morning, the cold start up "bark" when she fires of will get some attention, but if you are running a Magnaflow muffler delete right now, it won't be too much louder. But when you do decide to do headers and a cam, the sound will DOUBLE!! Mine did. So when you do that, when you start up, the whole world will know it. lol. But when you are leaving at 2am and you tip toe out, it's not to awefull loud. But hey, I love the sound it makes, and get all kinds of cool compliments on how she sounds, so I am having a tough time wanting to "tame it down!.. It is one of the loudest catbacks you can get. The Extreme is louder.

Man, your car sounds like a beast .... Thank you so much for the info. My car only has the GM hotcam, LT headers, Borla ATAK catback, and it's a bit much.

Thank you for the info, that's the one I found based on the recommendations on Camaro5.
Did you weld it on or use the clamps?
Did it change the tune of the car (Made it deeper) or just make it quieter?

Still getting it just trying to decide on polished or black tips. It’s on sale a little bit but cheaper for polished tips.
