Slow & sluggish starting issue and solution.

The story is simple. I’ve had sluggish starting for quite some time. I thought it was due to high compression, big cam, supercharger etc but it wasn’t getting any better and hot starts were a hold my breath situation. I finally researched and found this, in fact, is not normal.

There’s so much information about this on this forum it was like drinking water from a fire hose. I admit I was a bit overwhelmed. There seemed to be no wrong answers but there was sooooooo much information that fell between the “this will fix it” parameters I couldn’t narrow anything down.

I finally decided to dissect this problem to the simplest issue and work my way up. The simplest solution being add another ground wire (4g) from the battery to the ground point. With the help of The Bald Eagle Machine and some Russian gangsters, I did just that. Before I installed the new wire I sandpapered the negative battery terminal until it shined and took a grinder to the area along the factory ground area until it shined. It now starts and sounds like it’s supposed to. I’m gonna get some hot starts to see how much better they are and go from there. (Which will be add the ground wire(s) in the engine bay which I most likely will do anyway)

If anyone needs any help or accurate information about this, don’t ask me. It’ll be the stupid leading the blind. I’m rather clueless and I’m making this shit up as I go along with as much help as I can get from others. The end.

So... What's the update? Did you remove your starter and wrap it in a heat-resistant starter wrap? That's probably one of the most important steps, apart from adding extra ground cables. I'm even debating adding a 3rd ground cable to the rear of my Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission's bell housing (goes to one of the bolts).

I’ve only gotten as far as the additional battery ground and the bell housing ground. That made a huge difference in starting. I haven’t had a chance to take the car out and check hot starts. There’s already a heat shield around the starter, so I’m hoping what I’ve done up to this point has solved my issue. TBD

Barnald,
Good morning. Concerning the additional battery ground. Did you basically install the additional 4 gauge wire from the battery post to the existing ground point in the trunk? 2 identical ground wires, vice 1? My Camaro…2014 2SS 1LE, 6.2L…with SLP 2300 SC and Blackwing CAI
Thank you…

This, make sure you sand the paint off the connecting point, and like most of us out there that have done this upgrade, also install an extra ground wire under the car from the bellhousing to the body frame directly to the side of that location, there is a bolt in the frame to connect it to. You can get the cable at your local auto parts store.
