Zora? Is that you?

GM has been airing a trailer for a new Corvette model. The trailer has sweet exhaust sounds, so it's not the often rumored Corvette EV. The trailer ends with a stylized "X" and the date 6.17.25.

Pretty sure that means what we've been calling Zora will be introduced on June 17th (this upcoming Tuesday) as the ZR1-X.

The likely configuration is
  • 5.5TT DOHC
  • electric front axle
  • somewhere around 1,400 system hp

Maybe they're planning on calling it ZR1-X instead of Zora.

I guess they could also be introducing a naturally aspirated 5.5L with electric front axle and hp in the 820 range. Basically a Z06-X, But I think it's gonna be Zora.

Seeing as how the ZR1 is just barely starting production, I can't see them launching the Zora just yet.

They would lose a significant portion of the "gotta have the latest and greatest" crowd who are lined up for the ZR1.

The one thing that is for certain is GM is announcing something on Corvette on June 17th. The "X" seems to point to something with AWD (electric front axle in Corvette form).

In theory, it could be the also much rumored Corvette SUV. I kinda doubt that because the plant for that isn't finished yet. I'm not sure that it is even close to finish yet, so announcing the vehicle wouldn't make sense.

The video I'm linking has the teaser video included.

Appears "Zora" ended up being an option pkg for the ZR1, ZR1e, of course noting the electric motor up front. So, LT7 + HP1 – Front Axle, Electrified Propulsion.

It would likely take a Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton to find out for sure

The fact they've added on to the ZR1 is amazing. 1250hp was something the aftermarket would achieve, not something you'd get from the factory. It makes me wonder if the Zora name is being saved for something else or if it was decided just not to use it.

If gm can have this breadth of offerings they certainly could put a manual in the C8. Not the ZR1 but a base Stingray or Z06 would benefit from a manual option.

Pretty certain Zora was only intended for use as an internal code name. C6 ZR1 was Blue Devil. C8 Z06 and ZR1 were Thelma and Louise when I was still at GM (up to 2017). And this configuration was Zora.

I remember the Blue Devil internal name as Duke was the alma mater of an engineer or the lead at the time. I hadn't heard Thelma and Louise though.

So what are the chances a C8 offers a manual?
