Z28 purchase maybe?

Hey guys I’m close to pulling the trigger on a 15 Z28 White. Price is good based on the high mileage 60k. Looks clean no damage well maintained. However I’m not too familiar with this model, I’ve only owned a couple of SS versions.

Anything I should know first? Is it a good purchase at this point being that it’s a 10 year old car? I really love the Z28 looks and just the rarity. I can always keep my 2SS and call it a day! 😝

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated!

DO IT! Few owners here have racked up 100k on their Z's with no issues. Kinda depends what your use case is, daily driving a Z over the SS might be a little tough, as the suspension is much stiffer and the front chin spoiler takes some finesse with ingress and egress on driveways and steep inclines. Although I dont see too many of us talking you out if it, we are in the Z/28 specific for forum for a reason... we've all already drank the Kool-aid already.

Biggest thing I would try to confirm on the car is that all the Z/28 specific parts and pieces are there, a lot of them are NLA from the dealer, and hard to find on the 2nd hand market.

Previous maintenance history is a plus. Check the brakes, if the car was tracked a considerable amount at 60K miles they may need attention and can be rather expensive. White is my favorite color!

check if the car had heads "fixed". If it has been done, it's a plus.
I drive mine everytime I can, no garage queen. These cars are meant to be used, they will never shoot up in value in a reasonable amount of time. Drive it!

it's one of the best cars you can buy for less than 100k. It is just GREAT. The performance, the grip, the emotions... it's really a fantastic car. You will find out that it's quite different from the 2ss you already have.

Pretty much I’ve been hearing it’s a great car. As someone mentioned earlier how is the drivability around town as you said you drive it a lot. I’m not a big fan of the splitter in front and I feel like I might end up damaging it going in and out of my driveway. Also the streets here in LA are pretty bumpy. I’m not a young man anymore (50) how’s it on the back and neck!? 😂

If you are buying from Carvana really look the car over.
There have been so many car returned for damage and issues.
Have someone familiar with them check it out if you do.
They have a 7 day money back guarantee.
I just looked at Carvana and the have a white 15 with those miles pending.
Just be careful.

I just said I drive it a lot, not that I drive it a lot on the ROAD

front splitter is low and quite long so it's VERY easy to damage it. fortunately it's also really sturdy so the most you will get is a scratch.

we are about the same age and I think the Z28 is way too stiff for the road. Hey, she's also too stiff for some racetracks (bumpy ones).
This is a track car, if you are looking for comfort look elsewhere.
On the track the car drives unreasonably well: it has a very predictable behavior, with the proper camber settings it turns well and the overall mechanical grip is among the best of the best. This car can pace a track at about same times as a 996 GT3 (given a similarly skilled driver), so you have to consider that in the right hands this is faster than 95% of what you will find on the market (or the road).

It's understated, everyone thinks it's just a camaro... and they are right, unless you track it. When you go to the track this car unleashes all its talents and becomes a weapon.

I love mine and I am sorry for those who keep them in mint condition in the garage... these cars are a JOY to drive. VERY few cars can say the same in the past 10 years.

I'm thinking the most important question might be what is your intended use?

Truthfully a weekend car to show off just knowing it’s rare and I own one is what gets me! Call me a show off or whatever haha!
Hitting the track probably not, some winding canyon roads or trips soaking up the ocean scenery probably more so! I don’t care if it’s not too comfortable I feel like every muscle car is some what like that and I driven quite a few!

it really depends on your definition of muscle car.
The cars that were called muscle cars were all powerful, large engines on a crappy chassis with even poorer suspensions and brakes. The z/28 is NOT like that. It's a track monster.

I think you would be very happy with a Z/28 for a hobbyist/therapy machine. They are great twisty road cars and pull like you always THOUGHT a muscle car should. 505 HP, 6-speed manual and 3.91 gears are awesome. I would equate the ride to a C6 base Corvette. Stiff, feels bumps in the road but not unbearable. I'd say the big, comfortable Recaros have a lot to do with that. Test drive one and I think you'll be hooked.

Funny thing is they built it to beat out a 997 GT3 which it does as well.

This is one the best cars anyone can buy, period.

If it has the heads addressed. Get it you're good to go. They should have made this car 650-700HP from the factory. It handles it no problem. Absolute pleasure to drive if you just want to get into a car and go drive, race, mountain roads etc.... this is it.

Also this car gets a ton of good attention.

Plus I don’t see anyone putting a 427 in a car again - an American GT3; that roars through a manual gearbox.
