Converter

Hello everybody, I would like to know your opinions before I buy a converter. I’m thinking about buying the TCI242976, is TCI a good brand? I like this one because you can keep the lock up feature stock and tuning is not necessary on this one. Otherwise I’m considering circleD. The car is a Camaro 2012.
Regards Anders.

Need some more info on the car, what mods have been done, what stall speed are you looking at getting, stock gearing? What are your plans for the cars driving. I have run a Precision Industries 3200 single disc in my car, didn't like it, wasn't enough for the cam setup, went to a Circle D 4500 single disc and that turned the car into a street monster! And she is still has good street manners when driving normally. Plus you will need a trans cooler if the stall speed is higher than stock... Most guys would do a 3200 stal on a stock engine with minor mods..

The engine is stock except from the cai and headers. Trans cooler is already installed, stock gearing. the stall speed is 3-3200 on the tci converter. The plan is a stage 1 gpi cam but I wanna start with the converter. I’m planning on just driving in the city casually but it’s not a daily car it’s more for the weekends and free time and I’ll do some car meets and maybe quarter mile sometimes.
I’m just wondering if the tci converter is good and works well, the biggest reason is that it says that tuning is not necessary because we live in Sweden.

Cool. TCI is a well know company, I never had any of their products, but they are quality units. For starters I do know that there is a video out ther I watched, don't remember which converter company it was, they installed a 3200 converter in a basically stock 5th gen camaro and picked ip a half second in the quarter mile. And being you want to do a cam down the road, I would go with the 3200 stall, it would be good for the Stage 1 cam. 3600 would be even better, but 3200 will suffice. And as for them saying you don't need to tune it, yes you do. When you install a converter that isn't the same stall as the stock unit, you need to tune it for the different shift points, pressure, and lock up points for the car and transmission. If you don't the ECU and TCM won't know when and where it needs to shift under WOT pulls and aggressive driving, because the ECM and TCM ara set for a stock stall application. It will drive decently under normal driving conditions, but NOT under any aggressive drives. Hope this helps you out.

Here is a link to the converter, Bolt-Together design. Is it reliable? I’m thinking about oil leaks. https://www.tciauto.com/gm-6l80-bolt...-3200-rpm.html

That I couldn't tell you. I've never dealt with, or knew anyone who used a "bolt together" converter. Especially one that doesn't require a tune to make sure it functioned properly. That's an expensive converter as well. You could save a bunch going with Circle D, since you did mention them. With that TCI one, you would have to know your converter knowledge in setting it up.

This is all you would need..
