Rotor size question 2011 LS
Hi folks I have a 2011 LS that I don’t know much of the history of, but it needs front brakes and the rotors it has on it are definitely not the stock LS sized rotors. The car has aftermarket rims as well (“ION” on the center area) and the rotors, although I can’t get an exact measurement, appear to be around 14” diameter. The tires are the stock size and the rims are 18”. The rotors are Definitely wider than the 12.64” listed for stock width.
Was the SS rotor size larger for these cars, and if so can I use those for a new pair? I realize taking them off and measuring them would be ideal but I don’t have space to do this myself so I have to buy the parts first before I take it to the shop. It appears the larger diameter rotors will fit since these look much bigger, but I’m just wondering if there is any other reason an SS rotor wouldn’t work with the LS models with aftermarket rims. If it’s just a clearance issue, it seems like these clear fine. If anyone has SS (larger diameter) rotors on their LS/LT let me know. Thanks very much Scott |

You have the stock caliper and the 14" SS rotors will not fit when using a stock V6 caliper. So while it may look bigger, you have the stock rotor for an LS.

Ok thanks, good info here. This rotor/pad kit from Brembo has larger than stock rotors and is listed as a direct replacement for the LS. Is this wrong? (It would t be the first time summit was wrong) |

I should add I held a ruler up to my rim without taking the wheel off and the rotors are absolutely bigger than 12.64” unless my ruler is off.
I want to get the stock size actually but I also don’t want the fronts to be smaller than the rears if I have some aftermarket bigger rotors. I want them to match until I need to do the rears as well, which may not be for awhile they seem practically new. I’ll grab a picture of the rim with my ruler on it tomorrow so you guys don’t think I’m smoking something lol |

I know I don’t have Brembo anything on this car. The reason I posted this thread was to ask if it’s possible to use the bigger Brembo rotor on an LS with stock calipers and aftermarket wheels. Summit sells a Brembo kit that includes pads and rotors and lists the diameter as 13.98” and they say it works on an LS- I had to put that sub model in when searching for it. I think the summit info is wrong, and this kit is only for the SS. They need to fix their listing to reflect that.
I want to get rotors that are similar to what I have now, which are also larger than 12.64” but I don’t know anything else about them. They are clearly larger than 12.64” though, so I don’t want to buy the “stock” size now and have my front rotors noticeably smaller than the rears, which seem almost brand new and do not need replacement. Whoever owned this car before me had larger rotors installed with the aftermarket wheels they put on it, so it obviously works but now I need to replace the fronts and want them to match the rears, at least in rotor diameter. Im not looking to do any conversion or swap to SS parts, just want things to match. Last edited by scott71law; 09-07-2025 at 11:11 AM. |

no the SS rotors will not fit with on the V6 calipers
f you what a really good set of looking good rotors, go to Detroit axle they have a great set of rotors and pads for the LS/LT v6 Camaro Brake rotor front: 12.64 rear: 12.4 |

The stock rear rotors are listed as 12.4". Again, just like the fronts, anything larger WILL NOT FIT! Not only will a larger rotor not fit the caliper but it also won't fit the parking brake. Regardless of what your "eyeballing" a measuring tape tells you, you have the stock sizes. |

Invest in better brake rotors, pads; and keep good tires and brake fluid. That’s the same thing I thought about, when I was originally planning to convert to bigger brakes in the front, on my SS (using 2nd gen Cadillac CTS-V front brake parts).
I figured in my case, I was cheaping out on the calipers, rotors, pads, and even tires, sadly…. If anything, the only decent thing that I had, was maybe some nice DOT 4 and 5.1 brake fluid. I was broke and thought that a bigger brake setup would make such a “better” difference. I know that’s not exactly what you’re doing, but it’s similar to it in regards to particular aspects (like running a larger brake rotor size). Were you planning on drag racing or tracking the car? I think the factory, OEM solid brake rotors and some nice aftermarket semi-metallic brake pads would do you some good. Heck, you can probably maybe even install some stainless steel braided brake hoses, to get a better brake pedal feel, and less swelling of the brake hoses when they get overly hot. It’s not necessary, but if you drive your car hard more often, I’d say it’s worth it. |
