Reduced Power at WOT after Rebuild

Reposting this here to see if I get any additional suggestions…..

2 years ago I put a Whipple SC on my car. Whipple tune. For a year car ran great! Long story short, I developed some internal failures which led to needing a new motor.

I bought a new LS3 from Jennetty Racing. I also bought a ton of other upgrade stuff from them to complete the build….. cam, headers, fuel pump, injectors, plugs, cai, catch can, etc. New GM wiring harness. I put the Whipple back on. JRE provided a tune via email based on everything I did.

Break in for about 800 miles not pushing it hard and keeping it under 3000 rpm’s. Car drove great! No issues. Changed the oil and ready for pushing it harder. I can push it moderately and no issues. But as soon as I push it harder it immediately goes into reduced power mode. Throws code P0606.

I took it to JRE for a basic routine inspection. The immediate response was my PCM was at fault based on the code. However Ted’s son (who is great) seemed very confident it was my aftermarket coils (which I was running with the original install of the SC no problem). He told me to switch them back to factory OE. So did that and out for a test drive and same thing is happing.

I’m having a hard time with it being the PCM when it was fine before. Been doing a lot of research and thinking there may be an issue with the tune? I also saw a post on here from JRE responding to someone else’s P0606 code and they said they figured it out and it was an issue with the tune.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Car has been complete since January and I am dying to reap the benefits of my hard work and $25k!

Thank you!

We had a PCM go bad. You can get it online for under $150 and then have it tuned again. If you or someone you know is savvy with HPTuners it’s an easy upload. For peace of mind it’s relatively cheap.

Sounds like you have a corrupted tune file or perhaps there is a loose ground somewhere. Check your grounds and if it isnt that have them refresh the tune file. If it persists you might just have to buy a new pcm. They're not super expensive.

Spoke to Ted at JRE today. He said this is almost always throttle sensors or connections both at the gas pedal and throttle body.

Do I need to upgrade or something? Or is it just a tune adjustment?

I’d suggest you talk to another shop as well. Like a second opinion from a doctor.

Or…you can go over to HP Tuners forum and search around there for that code. Or post there asking for some help. Lots of tuners hang out there and can help.

Thanks all! I have an appointment at JRE. I feel like I should give them a chance to correct. I just hope I don’t walk out of there with another huge bill.

I’ll update everyone.

UPDATE: had my dyno tune session at Jannette and the tune fixed everything! Then the icing on the cake…… I pulled 825HP!

JRE made it all possible and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality performance shop. The owner (Ted) and his team are the best!

I started this build a year ago and I’m finally done (well….. there’s the new rear diff I now want)
