Voltage High I think alternator is bad
Well driving I get a bad vibe. So I go through my DIC and notice my battery voltage is 14.9 to 15v I always remember it being like 13 something maybe just hit 14.. so when I get to the light I shut the car off and see what voltage the battery gives. So then it goes back down to 13.2 instantly and slowly goes down from there.
So I think my alternator is not regulating the voltage right or something. Going to call my shop but thought I would see if anyone else has had this. A Picture ![]()

Mine runs the same, especially when cold out. 15 - 15.3 volts

Never did check it at the battery but most others on the forum said theirs runs the same.
BCM controls the voltage. Link above.

Ok I read that post.. never found it.. I was searching for voltage instead of volts..
So seems to be normal.. Thanks I appreciate it

My 2013 LS starts below 15 volts then goes to 15 after a minute or so and stays there. When I turn on lights and accessories then turn them off, it jumps to 15.1, then goes back to a steady 15. So this is normal??
I’ve been obsessed with it because my radio, screen and HVAC indicator lights go in and out. The problem doesn’t occur when the ignition is on but engine isn’t running, or when the engine is running and the alternator is disconnected. A replacement alternator didn’t fix it according to the dealer. |

Its called The Electrical power management system, It performs 3 functions:
monitors the battery voltage and estimates the battery condition, takes corrective actions by boosting idle speeds, and adjusting the regulated voltage, performs diagnostics and driver notification. There are also 6 modes of operation Battery Sulfation Mode Charge Mode Fuel Economy Mode Headlamp Mode Start Up Mode Voltage Reduction Mode. The voltage can range from 12.5-15.5 volts. If you are not getting messages in the driver information center then the system is functioning properly. |

Thanks for the response. A conscientious tech at the dealership found a GM document stating that it is normal for the Camaro’s generator to charge between 11 to 15.5 volts. I subsequently had to drive over two hours and saw the voltage did drop into the 12 volt range. I did replace the battery before the drive because I thought it may correct the radio problem. It didn’t. After replacing the alternator, the dealer replaced the screen and then BCM. Didn’t fix the problem. They replaced the radio. Now all is good. In my opinion, after reading the work order, I’ll never know if it was the radio or BCM. (Did they discover that the BCM wasn’t properly programmed to synchronize with the radio after they installed the new radio?) The dealer worked with GM on every step, but GM did not guarantee any of their suggestions. The dealer did work with me, so in the end, my cost was in line with diagnostics and a radio replacement; close enough anyway.
