1. Simplify the lineup 2. Bring back simple V6 and V8 engines that are easy and cheap to fix and maintain 3. Make cars and trucks affordable again. There’s no way a 6.2 Tahoe should be $80k. $$60k max. Same for the Silverado. Prices have gone mad.

No one negotiates or simply gets up and walks out if the dealer won’t budge on price. My dad taught me to put together an offer in writing myself, at home, before you even walk into a dealer, with the car I want and my contact info and simply hand it to the salesman and tell them “you sell me the car for that price I’ll buy it right now. If not, you have my info and you can call me if/when you change your mind”. Own it before you walk in. Now everyone just signs the 10% finance sheet for 8 years and $1200/mo like a zombie.

Guess I am the only one left. I also do my research and look at other dealerships in the US because there are those that give a 10% discount and ship to all 50 states that and do Taxes, titles etc in all 50 states. There are some you can even special order from and do the same. I bring that info with me too so I give them a chance to do business locally and if not I do business with them. |

Canada is dropping tariffs on Chinese built Electric Vehicles from 100% to 6%.
https://youtu.be/TsWk0Fs4EKs?si=cs_AmJH5FfYRuosB So what does that mean and why should we care? In 2025, US domestic automaker imports into Canada hit a new low. Part of this is due to US automakers ceasing key operations in Canada. As a result Canada dropped preferential tariff treatment for those companies. Ford closed the Oakville Assembly plant where Edge was manufactured. They did so promising that they would build EVs in the plant, then cancelled the planned model. GM closed the CAMI plant where the Brightdrop commercial vans were produced. Stellantis has reduced jobs and output at Brampton, Ontario. So US built cars became more expensive in Canada due to dropping of the preferential tariffs. At the same time, Chinese automakers have been looking at the prospect of building in Canada, possibly even taking on some of the capacity idled by GM, Ford, and Stellantis. Canada still has targets to achieve specific levels of electrification. Quebec and British Columbia in particular have very aggressive targets and continue to see increasing sales of EVs. Why should the US care? When vehicles like pretty much the entire portfolio of BYD hybrid, PHEVs and EVs start landing in Canada at very aggressive prices and very competitive, high performing and technology rich products like Xiaomi SU7 and Zeekr 001FR and 009 start showing up at prices undercutting Tesla, GM, Ford and Stellantis vehicles, exports to Canada are likely to be significantly reduced. Historically, US automakers could count on selling 8 - 10% of their volume in Canada. This can affect overall production volume for US manufacturers and result in layoffs.

We are in some interesting times the American Consumer demand for ICE or hybrids, US policies compared to Canada it's a tough time to be an Automaker. A long time ago I learned that you let demand dictate what you produce but with what Americans want and what Canada wants is two different things entirely. This problem is likely to exist for the next ten years or so. Even if the opposite party takes over in 2028.

Looks like Canada buys about 2million new vehicles annually. We have used China for years and years to make us cheap stuff. Much of it pretty reliable and some not so much. But I have no doubt they could make a decent EV at a far lower price given the fact their labor costs are far lower. With costs skyrocketing here since around 2020, many could use a very cheap vehicle that just gets you from point A to B. As long as parts are available for servicing it may work out very well for many in Canada. We already subsidized our auto industry heavy for EV and the cheap options are few and far between. They are some nice ones but too expensive. They can’t seem to make a cheap EV with style. We are good at pickups and SUVs and labor is too much. Cant compete with China, its a lose lose.

I know it’s impossible but I avoid Chinese made crap whenever I can.
I’ll pay more to buy a car made in America by a company headquartered in America. Having said that it’s still insane a 6.2 Tahoe is $80k+. That has nothing to do with China. GM needs to fix their pricing.

Now if this MOU gets extended in 3 years there could be an increase to that number.

They then used reverse engineering to make better more efficient vehicles. The goal 20 years ago was to be the biggest supplier of electric vehicles in the world.
