Newbe with 2010 Camaro SS question
Just picked up my Camaro after having Corvettes for years. Were chrome wheels stock for that year. I have a damage on the face of the wheel and have been told it is a polished wheel or a chrome wheel. Just looking for some advice...20x8 on the front and 20x9 on the back. Sorry if this has been asked before...picture attached

No, chrome was not a factory option for 2010. You either got polished silver on the non-RS or if you got the RS package, you got the midnight silver or whatever it was. It has a darker haze to it, but neither were chromed. If yours was chromed, then you'll probably need to get it rechromed to fix it. If it's polished, which looks like if it is, it was polished after delivery as they're not that shiny stock. That may be able to be fixed. Take it to one of those shops that do wheel repair. They may be able to fix it or at least give you advice better than mine.

No, these are possibly aftermarket or some option I wasn't aware of, maybe extra polished. I thought the stock polished wheels were clear coated? Anyhow, chrome factory style wheels look amazing, in my humble opinion. Yours are much shinier than I have ever seen our polished wheels look. Some companies do make chromed aftermarket versions of the stock wheels, so it could be that.

Those are chrome plated. The factory polished wheels have a blurry look and are not mirror like at all. They are also clear coated to prevent them from oxidizing.
One way to tell, if you take the wheel off, on the backside of one of the spokes you'll find the stamp marks the manufacturer makes after casting the wheel. Chrome plating will fill in these stamp marks so you can't read them. |

All of the above is correct. Stock RS and SS wheels were painted "midnight silver" and cleared. The ones that you could get aftermarket were most likely polished and cleared, I do think there was a company out there that did offer them "chromed" and cleared, but don't recall who it was. You would have to take the wheel to one of those custom wheel repair places if you have one to get it repaired. Or replace it. I think I saw Tirerack sells them polished.

Back in the Summer of '09 I ordered my SS with the optional POLISHED Wheels. Not happy with them I got a set of chrome wheels that were available from CalChrome in California. Contact them as they are still in business.
Chrome is the only way to go imo.

You could get polished on RS cars as well but it was a $3-400 option. My old 2SS/RS had the polished wheels. I actually like them better than the silver painted wheels on my current SS. Top is painted bottom is polished…
I agree those above are chrome and not factory.

Ok, to make it clear, for the 2010 model year, the SS wheels RPO factory options were as follows (not including the LPO wheels):
SS STANDARD WHEEL- 20x8 and 20x9 sterling silver painted wheel LT with RS package or SS with RS package STANDARD WHEEL- 20" midnight silver painted wheels OPTIONAL WHEEL- (RPO Q9J for SS) was 20" polished aluminum with clearcoat. Available option at extra cost. Consensus was for those who opted for the polished aluminum wheel was "meh". Polish jobs weren't all that and a bag of chips. Some even had huge swirls left under the clear. Grab bag for sure. From the brochure: ![]() From the Initial Ordering Guide: ![]() ![]()

Camaro down for the count and need help!!!
I have a 2010 Camaro ss (L99) I recently got a afm/dod delete on it (active fuel management) new battery, new maf,iat,02 sensors also. But the car will start then die almost immediately after and I have abs and stabilitrack light on with traction control light on to. I have a ob2 scanner, even tho it’s not a top of the line one they use in shops. When I plug it in I’m not getting any codes for them though. Was wondering if anyone can help me out or any ideas.
