The US market is completely different from anywhere else in the world. We prefer large cars and truck with big gasoline V6 and V8 engines, partly because we have the largest and most expansive highway system in the world. Our highways are long, wide, flat, and straight for long expanses, so we prefer large, powerful trucks and SUVS that are comfortable to drive and have the power and torque to get up to 70 quickly and also pass at speed smoothly and quickly.

Most of the trucks and SUVs we prefer in America won’t even fit on half the streets in the UK.

The Chevy Silverado and Ford F150 are among the best selling vehicles in America. I’m pretty sure they don’t even sell those in Europe. At least not the full size versions.

Try maneuvering a long bed extended cab dualie down one of your old cobblestone side streets.

Having big cars doesnt mean you cant have good, attractive design, or need to use poor quality materials, or ignore passenger/pedestrian safety, fuel economy or diversity in the range you sell.

Its also entirely feasible to make a vehicle that rides well but is also does corners and braking well, EU does this far better than US does.

TLDR: its not size that prevents people outside of the US buying US vehicles.

In November of 2025, just 56,072 EVs were registered in the U.S. — a 49% drop from a year earlier. It means that electric vehicles' share of the light-vehicle market dropped 3.7% to just 4.6%, according to Automotive News. Some industry analysts now believe that EVs won't get back above 6% market share for at least the next couple of years.

According to the report, EVs that exceeded 12 per cent DC fast charging usage saw a full per cent increased in average annual degradation of 2.5 per cent.
I read in my newsfeed on the my phone that the overall EV battery degradation rate was actually going up, despite advances in chemistry and charging technology, due to the increased use of fast charging, but I can't seem to find that article now.

To my Canadian friends, I wish you the best, especially those in in the interior provinces like Alberta, with the longest driving distances and the coldest temperatures, in your new Chinese EV future.

Well American taste in design is different too.

We’re different in every aspect.

We invented the big pickup truck and the muscle car.

They might have shortcomings for other countries tastes but it’s what we like and what sells here.

The extent to which we're (Canada) willing to be pushed around is certainly being tested. The reliable relationship we once had is gone, at least for now. Any negative that comes from this will be sleepy Joes fault though haha

Lefty by name but since JT quit they've basically moved forward with Conservative policy. I expect the federal EV mandate by 2035 to go away.

I certainly don't speak for all Canadians but for the most part we don't want this. The allowance of 49k Chinese EVs (3% of our new car market annually) was to grant a reprieve to the Canola farmers, pork and seafood exporters. They were being hammered with high tariffs by China since we moved in step with the US to apply a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. The only two countries in the world to apply a 100% tariff on their EVs.

We'd love to get back to being closer allies.

So you admit that Chinese cars are superior to US cars as far as design, efficiency, safety and build quality are concerned, particulary where global markets are concerned? Id be the first to admit they are better than a lot of European efforts TBH.

Who knows, maybe if you tried an EV you might realise they are actually pretty damn good too.

Consider g I will never own anything that’s not fully internal combustion V6 or V8 with no turbos or hybrid crap I’ll never even THINK about touching an an EV.

And as I said before, I’ll pay more for something made by an American or Japanese company than anything made in China so long as I have a choice.

If I could buy an iPhone that was 100% fabricated and assembled completely in the United States from 100% American -only components but cost $500 more than the Chinese produced version I’d absolutely buy the American one without hesitation.

So I went out and bought another car. Luxury performance sedan.

Luxury:
  • Leather / Alcantara / porous woodgrain interior
  • Heated and ventilated seats with (5) massage modes
  • Four zone HVAC
  • Panoramic roof
  • Soft close doors
  • Hands free autonomous on mapped roads
  • Power tilt / telescopic
  • 21 speaker Dolby Atmos sound system
  • Powered window screens for rear seat passengers and backlite

Performance:
  • 819 hp
  • 885 lb-ft
  • 0-60 3.0s
  • 1/4 mile 10.8s @ 130.1 mph

EV Specs:
  • 2-motor AWD
  • 112 kWh battery
  • 516 mile EPA range (most available on any EV)
  • Adds 200 miles in 10 minutes; 300 in 20 (among the fastest charging along with Porsche Taycan)
  • Lowest drag coefficient of any production vehicle (0.197)

And the most fun fact of all... Cost just about the same as what my Camaro sticker price was 9 years ago!!

I can guess what it is, very nice indeed. My etron is coming to end of lease so looking at an Audi SQ6 or Merc EQS to replace, the Merc particularly feels like a "next generation" vehicle
