'14 RS brake upgrade / rebuild newbie dumb question
Okay, so I have a '14 RS, purchased a full set of brembos off a '15 SS - went the route of complete rebuild (only thing not replaced are the caliper halves and mating bolts), had the calipers professionally stripped and powdercoated - ready for reassembly now:
Question, what should initial steps be, to ensure nothing got somehow past the masked/plugged areas are still inside where it would cause issue i.e. grains of media in the fluid tunnels or "overspray" of powdercoat in the piston holes. Like should I flush the halves with something and scotchbrite any overspray areas? and what would be best to flush the halves with? Any "assembly lube" things I should do with the inner seal rings or piston like the old "put a thing film of oil on the oil filter ring before install" type deal, but using my brake fluid? |

Is there powder coat over spray on any of the mating surfaces? You'll probably need more than scotch brite to get it off but you need to make sure those surfaces are clean and flat.
You can use thread chasers to clean threads but be careful not to damage the mating surface for the bleed screws. Clean everything with brake fluid and compressed air before reassembling the calipers and yes you can use brake fluid as assembly lube for the piston seals. Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk
