New remote cover?
Plenty of old threads on this but i thought i would maybe get an update on the subject.
I finally had an afternoon cruise around town after a 4 month hiatus and a pleasant 65 degrees in the panty dropper. ![]() However.... I noticed my remote buttons are looking worse for wear after almost 14 years and 16k miles. The remote works fine btw, just the buttons looking kinda melted/distorted. Anybody recommend a good replacement I can drop the guts into? Or just step up and get a whole new unit instead of futzing around as it is fairly old at this point?

I bought these a few years ago. Swapped the board & no issues.

My best suggestion is go to the dealer and have them order a new set for you. Don't trust the Amazon/Ebay remote crap as it does not live up to what they say it does. I purchased new key fobs from the dealer new and of course paid $$ for it. Then at that time frame I purchased new covers for them at the parts counter. Pics below...

I purchased those exact ones off of Amazon years ago and they were crap! Couldn't get them to work. Money wasted.

I bought two of these a few years ago when my fobs wore out. A much needed upgrade.

You can't beat the original factory internals, so if yours still work, I would do something like this.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/20253473994...BlBMUKTX-MLpZg If you want a new remote, I bought these. One is for the reconditioned fob and the other is to get the key cut. You just send them a pic of yours. Not exactly cheap but appears to be OEM stuff. Not sure how they refurbish them. My guess is they replace the button covers and put new bowties on the back. Aftermarket fobs don't have the recess for the bowtie. These do. https://www.ebay.com/itm/112320295919 https://www.ebay.com/itm/11367722776...8AAOSwIt1i8pc4

Last time I got a spare key made for the convertible, the locksmith charged $40 just to cut it and the dealer wanted more, although I don't recall how much more. I got that fob off Amazon for $20 and it lasted about two years, never working as good as the factory unit. When it failed, I transferred the original internals to that fob, and it works like a charm to this day. The refurbed fob I got off eBay, which the seller is a locksmith in NC, was a third fob I wanted to have around to make sure I have switchblade keys well into the future, so no internals to transfer on that one. If you have the internals in working order, a new cover works well too, but I prefer fobs that look like the originals and that is a bit harder to find.

Hey you guys talk about transferring internals of these things, what goes into that process? I'm worried I will try that and wreck my only working fob lol. If it is pretty simple to do I'd like to try it as I have a new amazon fob to use, and mine is pretty jacked up with distorted buttons, etc.
Thanks for any info, Scott |

The one I bought can be programmed fairly easy it looks like but just swapping over the guts was simple and you then don't have the new blank key cut. I watched several vids on the 'tube first tho.
The factory fob is glued shut and the majority of the half hour doing the job was getting it apart. Cut seams, pry, cut seams, pry again, etc. 30 minutes total and it tested out fine. I think I only cussed once during the event and no band aids needed.
