Limp mode in cold weather

Hello everyone

I have a 2010 2ss/rs A6 recently i went to go put gas in my car and it kept stalling out right after turning on. I was stuck at the gas station for about 15 mins trying to get it to start and at least out of the way of the pump. I had tried giving it some gas when first starting as it sounded like it was just running out of fuel. that didn't work at first but at one point it did and i was good to drive home. shortly after (within weeks) my car started to go into limp mode when first starting after its been sitting overnight and driving not even a mile down the road. i pulled off turned the car off popped the hood to see if anything looked wrong then hopped back in and car drove fine after.

Does anyone have any idea as to what could cause this because now its happening almost every morning. i start the car let it idle and warm up as i thought is was the cold weather, nope same thing. I'm going to be replacing the spark plugs, new MAF new battery and praying that it works but just wanted some input on if anyone else has had an issue similar and if you fixed it then how.

P.S new to the forum so not sure if this it to lengthy or not, sorry in advanced

IS the car shaking like its a miss fire? It sounds as if it is loosing fuel or is vapor locked. Fuel pumps typically just fail and not work sometimes.

So on one of my pick ups Dodge Ram and My work car Dodge Charger both with Hemi's I had a mis fire issue that turned out to be Bad O2 sensors, I only got a code once and was chasing it for a while. They would read fine when checking with the scanner but must have gone off course at times. I am not saying they are your issue if car is not mis firing but just shutting down.

yeah when it goes into limp it starts shaking alot, the idle sometimes sounds like its cammed or that im blipping the gas when im not. i thought it might have been the maf because i do have no cats and had the o2 sensors tuned out. but now that i think of it, it was done by a shady shop thats now out of business so it could be the 02 sensors but ive had no cats for like 2 years now and this just recently started.

Sounds like fuel injectors are going out. I had it happen to me on my promaster 2500 work van. Same exact situation as you are experiencing.

The Front O2's probably are not tuned out and they are the ones that would cause rough running. There really are a number of things that could be going on here. A coil pack could be acting up once it gets warm, Injector could be going out. Does check engine light come on at all?

Without more data, there is about 1000 possible causes. All we know is that it runs bad.

If it actually goes into a reduced power mode, it should have a trouble code to indicate what caused it.

Data is your best friend. We can guess but thats about it. Considering you just got fuel might be a clue. Try some K-100, it's cheap & easy.

Yep, could have gotten some bad gas with water in it...

Before I put my car away for winter, it gets a half tank of 93 & a bottle of this. Sometimes the stupid little things work.

Try something like this before randomly throwing parts at it.
