I had an aluminum flywheel SPEC twin in my ZL1 took it out and put a steel flywheel McLoed RST in the car.

Ran the same 60-130 in the same air, aluminum just feels faster but it isn't.

Did you capture the actual weight difference between the two? That's a good test, 60-130 in same DA. I'm surprised there is no difference at all, just made me wonder if maybe the two complete assemblies (clutch + flywheel) were similar weight.

The Mcleod RXT with billet steel flywheel was only a couple lbs ligther than stock, about 49.5lbs. Not sure what the RST is, I would think similar but maybe even a touch heavier having a sprung hub and full faced material.

Stock ZL1 clutch is 67 lbs.

The SPEC was lighter for sure, noticeably. It weighed 42 lbs, weight of the RST I don't remember but it was heavier.

Side note:

DO NOT EVER PUT A SPEC CLUTCH IN ANYTHING!

I learned a bit more about the aftermarket clutch that I took out after taking ownership. It was supposedly an RPS twin disc clutch (blue housing, if that helps validate?). It had 20 lb billet steel flywheel, BUT aluminum plates. So overall assembly weight was ~38 lb. Much lighter than stock and significantly lighter than the Monster S Twin I had put in.

Is this a common combination for clutches... steel flywheel with aluminum internals? It definitely revved quick, but was hard to daily drive.

Usually the opposite, aluminum flywheel with a steel insert.

I am leaning towards the Monster triple S version with one of the steel flywheels, Everything I read says they feel like stock but with a lot more holding power.
