Zl1 purchase coming soon

Hey guys! So I’m in a situation where I have the opportunity to purchase a zl1. My 2010 SS was stolen last week and I’m in the process of getting a check for my loss. I’ve always wanted a zl1 and now I think this would be my opportunity to purchase one. I’ve looked around my area and I’ve narrowed it down to 2 options. Zl1#1 is a 2013, red with 15k miles at a price of $42k and Zl1 #2 is 2013, black with 33k miles. What are your opinions? I’ve always wanted an all black car but the mileage is a bit of a turn off compared to 15k on the red one. I’ve also heard of issues with superchargers having a rattle noise and issues with them being remedied. Obviously they’re out of factory warranty so I’m highly considering extended warranty in hopes that would be covered when it comes up.

That sucks that your SS was stolen but congrats on finding a pair of ZL1’s! First and foremost would be what years are they? The 2012 ZL1’s did have the supercharger issue, but I believe GM put in a different bushing for the 13-15 blowers.

Yeah huge bummer, but onto better things! They’re both 2013. I should also mention that I have my eyes set on a pair of ZL1 recaro seats on eBay I plan on putting into which ever one I end up choosing. The red one had a sunroof and the black one does not. I’m not sure if the Recaros sit any higher or lower than the stock seats.

The 2013’s as well as some early 2014s had the same spring isolator as the 2012.

Those seats are nice! I’m not sure I’ll they sit higher or lower. But I’ve had enough cars with t-tops to decide on a hardtop every time.

I’m so happy I have a better blower on my SS and don’t have to worry about that. Thank you for clarifying

My SS had a sunroof, I didn’t ever really use it on a daily basis. Maybe during summer, MAYBE. The biggest issue I had was the drains in the trunk would leak and let me tell you, that was not fun to discover after the rainy season.

i would always go with the lower mile car, but I think 42k is on the high side. try to search out of California and have it shipped to you. I did that and it was seamless. A black car is a bitch to keep clean. Even sitting in the garage, it gets dirty. As far as the Recaros they are built for skinny people. If you're a bigger guy I would pass. The regular zl1 seats are comfortable.

Yeah I would definitely prefer the lower mileage car for sure. It is just a $3k difference between the 2 cars after all. Both cars are out state as well. The lower mileage car is in Nevada and is $250 to ship. I’m on the slimmer side in regards to seats so I don’t think I’ll have an issue fitting in them.

The SC on '14 & '15 ZL1s are more reliable. I had the Recaros on my ZL1, they looked great, but always is uncomfortable to claim in or out of them because of the high bolstering design.

Wondering if ya ever made the purchase? Im on my fourth 5th gen zl1 if i were you and still shopping id go whichever car had more of the options i wanted already installed.

Let us know if ya grabbed a zl1, ps if you buy any of the model years the supercharger isolator job is easy to get done yourself or locally. I just did mine on a 13' in my barn this january!
