driveshaft question

Im doing a clutch on my 15 z28. When I got to removing the driveshaft. I got the front out and was working the rear. The front part of the driveshaft separated at the carrier bearing. I marked it an thought I was good but im starting to see that all the places I marked spin freely. I marked the front of the driveshaft an rear for indexing. Im worried that Im not going to be able to get the driveshaft back in the way it came. Am I screwed?

This is how they should be indexed. The top piece if you look has ONE line, the bottom piece has TWO lines, I high-lited them with silver so you can see them. The single line should be aligned in between the double lines on the opposite piece.

That looks like the same u-joint series that's in the SS. 'Roughly' a Spicer 1350 series. (not a Spicer kit tho) it's a pretty robust joint but I would have expected the Z to have been beefier. Unless that's not a Z/28 driveline in the pic.

That pic is MY reply to him about the orientation of the 2 pcs and is from my SS. And back in the day in my 69 Camaro with a 327 with the Muncey M21 trans, I blew up a u-joint doing a burnout, stuff went everywhere when it exploded, we replaced it with a Spicer heavy duty, never had that problem again!

Ah, so it is an SS shaft. Still wonder if the Z/28 shaft is beefier? Yeah, I've sold and installed hundreds, maybe thousands, of u-joints over the years. Listened to everyone I worked for as to why ours was 'better than Spicer.' (never worked for Dana) Probably none are better than Spicer in the automotive world. But Meritor (now Cummins) probably does have Spicer beat on class 8 trucks. Million mile warranty on a non greaseable u-joint!

Agreed. Back then Spicer was the ticket in my friends drag cars drive line, and our street cars too..
