Dot matrix numbers on block - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Ok camaro gurus , what are they /do they mean drivers side on the block about in the middle front to back theres a 13 didget number in dot matrix form (not casting numbers) no letters and none match the vin # what the heck is it ?
Starts with. 2014816

Just a GM laser-etched code that PARTIALLY corresponds to the VIN. Simply another form of internal GM ID-ing. Nothing too mysterious.

Stretch the confusing part, i read that the last six or eight members were supposed to match the vin number of my car.But not a single number does , 14k on car , doubt its been replaced

^^^^ This. It's part of their manufacturing assembly line QC check, it gets scanned at the area where it is assembled to track it on the line.
