I may adjust my driver side headlight just a bit. The way the two beams "merge" their cutoff lines feels a bit off. I don't have a good reference to OEM and what it SHOULD look like. I had to abandon them because passenger side housing was cracked with moisture behind lens. Then OEM driver side did not match color temp of new Rockauto light. So just had to do both. Had another drive in the dark this morning and getting great light... just feel want to adjust a bit. Hope you have success and hope you like them!

Got a local garage to give me a quote since my friend with the lift is too busy and its $550 to install em. It is what it is, I gotta be able to see right?

I'm sure that's a bit painful, but agree that dim lights are no go. I have definitely been lighting up road with the new aftermarket units. If you find they need adjusting after driving with them a bit, it is very easy to get at. Hope you get a great outcome and enjoying night driving again soon!

I came into a little bit of free money, $350, so I'm using that justification to let them install them and in my head, its only a $200 cost. Lol.

That's awesome. I think in the same way! Love those justification moments. I am actually formulating one in my head now, to justify spending $800 on a tune for only a CAI and scoop mod. Don't care if it's a "waste" of money... want it done.

Dang, 800 bucks?? Holy crap batman!! I would have a hard time justifying that one for a CAI and scoop only.. When I did my cam swap and converter and everything else, my tune was only 500 bucks, back in 2018..

I think mine was 750 each time. Did one FBO, cammed and boosted.

Personally I wouldn't do any tuning for just a CAI. Add headers, a ported throttle body and gpi rod mod intake, THEN tune it. A ported throttle body is so worth it. Throttle response is greatly improved. Makes down shift rev matching so much easier.

So agree here. Spend that money for when you do LT's and a ported TB and manifold. With just the CAI and scoop the stock ECM can adjust for that "minor" change to the AFR. And yep, on the ported TB, when I installed my V-MAX ported TB, man what a difference the response was! Night and day difference for sure, then when I did the LT's and the tune, it got even better if you can imagine. Slight touch and it's going somewhere! lol

If you need a little coaxing or peer pressure, go ahead and buy! Everybody's doing it!

Well, you guys got me thinkin' for sure. Mayyybeee I'll hold off? But maybe not too. For one, I'm kind of curious what a low mod tune would do, and to get kind of a baseline dyno run at same time. I guess $100 of the cost is for two credits on the HP Tuner (one time only if I keep going back to same tuner?). I am definitely interested in a larger throttle body now. What size/brand is good, without getting too aggressive (I will stay NA, if that even matters?).

I also just don't want to run +12 LTFT's for next year or so (not sure when I can afford the LTs).

EDIT: I just realized you guys said ported throttle body. Is that different than getting a larger one? I will research a bit myself, but thought would ask. This thread is getting a bit off topic... sorry all!

I succumb easily to peer pressure. Keep it coming!

Don't do a tune just for a CAI. Mostly cause you will get nothing from it but also because if you get an exhaust or a TB, you will need to get it tuned again. So what would you rather do, spend $800 and get one tune after you get them, or spend $800 now and spend another $800 getting a second one later? If you are having trouble justifying spending $800, how are you going to justify spending $1,600 to do it twice?

Yes a ported TB is different from getting a larger TB. The larger ones are for boosted engines and will not do you any good on a stock engine. Plus intakes for stock engines will not fit them so you will have to buy a new intake.

Ported throttle body is just that. Bo White on here used to do them but he retired. Dont think he will do another. VMax I havent even heard of since like 2015. I think Katech, Mamo and Soler are the only ones in the game. Bo hand ported all his. What he did was removed the hump in the throttle body which increased airflow ever so slightly and thinned the throttle body blade. Significantly improved throttle response. Its a stock 90mm TB with some stuff taken out of the mouth.

OEM intake manifold will only take a 90mm TB so doing a 95 or 102 requires a different intake manifold.

I went my full warranty period with doing minor reversible mods in case of warranty work.

Really appreciate these comments and you guys are talking sense into me. I am paying attention! I think I was just excited to do "something" that might make the engine run even better this year, since headers will be out a bit. But you all are spot on with your logic. Is it okay to run awhile with +12 LTFTs?

To get back to the OP... Hetfield, let us know if you got those headlights in and hopefully like them!
