GM approves a new Camaro

I really hope folks at GM aren’t defending the visibility like y’all are. If they do decide not to improve it, the car will fail again, no questions. I don’t want to see the car fail. I want to see it outsell the Mustang. The Mustang will then have to get better. Then when that gets better the Camaro will have to and so on. I want competition so the cars get better.

Martin and I have said it multiple times in this thread, EVERYONE can see what they NEED to see out of the Camaro, the issue is there is less visibility out of the car compared to others.

I just bought a bucket list Mustang last weekend and when I went to change lanes (no blind spot indicators) I turned my head to the rear passenger side and my mind got instantly blown. I can actually see what’s behind me AND to the right of me. Yes my mirrors are set correctly, but I think the folks who complain about the visibility of the Camaro (including myself) would like to physically see with our own eyes what is next to us, versus ONLY looking at the mirror.

I too am from a time without all the blind spot/rearview cameras. I have always preferred to turn my head and actually see what’s next to me. Got used to only using mirrors in the Camaro but it is nice being able to also actually see the cars next to me with my own eyes. If I am being honest, the Camaro and my truck have made my backing up skills weak as I got used to using backup cameras, so now I have to rebuild this skill.

Aside from visibility, my new to me Mustang has a larger backseat (I can sit behind myself and my head no longer hits the ceiling, I am short by the way), a place to put my phone that’s not the cup holder or passenger seat, less claustrophobic interior and a way more usable trunk. That means I can take it camping and should I decide to track this, it will be easier to pack. Also a helmet fits out the side window.

Most people aren't shopping for a 2SS, and frankly they probably weren't shopping for the 3LT (i.e. the I4/V6 models with blind sport monitoring). The fully loaded I4/V6 models were close to the 1SS and LT1 in price, so many people would just go for the base V8s. Which leads them back to the problem of no blind spot monitoring.


A lot of you can try to rationalize that the visibility doesn't matter, but it absolutely does. The first impression means everything. People aren't going to give the car a chance when it feels like they are looking out of a bunker with a slit for windows. They are going to say, "wow I can see much better out of a Mustang." Or "wow this Mustang's trunk is much better for fitting luggage/tires/golf clubs/etc."


If GM wants the car to be killed off again, then yeah go ahead and give it the visibility of an Abrams tank.

I never said it didn't matter I just said I set my mirrors right and never had an issue from my experience in the six years of ownership. I am not a rural dweller and live in a populated urban area and have even parallel parked it fine. Not my fault people can't set their mirrors correctly.

If you download the data on this website that contains every 2020-2024 model year car built you’ll see that SLIGHTLY more people bought V8’s versus I4/V6. I don’t have what percentages are 1SS/LT1 (no blind spot) versus 2SS/ZL1 but I always found it interesting that the Camaro sold more V8’s than I4/V6’s.

I know that’s the opposite for the Mustang and I suspect it’s because the Mustang appealed more to the casual sports car buyer versus the hardcore performance buyer who was willing to overlook the Camaros significant short comings at being an actual car.

Glad to see there’s one manufacturer keeping the TR6060 alive. Call me naive if you want but I think the 7th gen is going to be great:

Can’t ask for more than that aside from making the car appeal to more people by making it more usable so it doesn’t die today. Hope dodge comes out with a hemi in the charger as well. Keep the horsepower wars from the 2010’s going please. I hope the LS6 is more boost friendly than the LT1. Being fully forged and having dual injection makes me want to say it will BUT if the piston ring end gaps are super close again then I can see it still being problematic under higher boost conditions.

I’m not much for the FPC high revving 5.5L, but that engine would be perfect for a Z28 trim. I’m just hoping for a 6.7L ZL1 1LE version. They’d need a pretty tall blister/ hood to squeeze the 5.5 in given DOHC and intake.

But yea, just dreaming at this point… I sorta’ expect a parts bin Malibu type 4 door sedan with two trims- 4cyl turbo and 6.7. Dodge needs a pony car type version of the challenger (Cuda?).

The Camaro has always been a 2-door in my eyes, that’s a big part of its identity. A 4-door muscle car is fine but it shouldn’t be called a Camaro.
