By statue? The moment you break the posted mph. In practice? Officer discrection. I start writing at 11mph over. At that point, your attitude determines if you get the ticket. At 15mph over and higher, it's a ticket, unless someone in your vehicle is dying, or something similiarly serious.

Where I work, it's a 65mph zone for anything under 4tons, not pulling a trailer, a camper or rv. You in any of those 4 things, it's 55mph. At least until January 1, then everyone is 65mph.Also, it's not hectic, no rush hour, in my neck of the woods, so giving people an 10mph cushion is reasonable. We also have a crap ton of Whitetail deer, and a 100pd doe vs a Camaro at the speed limit or higher is going to be ugly for the Camaro, lol.

Speaking of deer , that has been a huge problem where I live lately. And many people are speeding when they hit them. So, good point. I always drive slower this time of year because of that.

I dont even drive the camaro really after dark. Which really sucks now since its dark at 530. I live in the sticks and the deer out number the people. Its insane. If I do drive at night, its about 10-15 under and i am constatly scanning for them. I hate this time of year. Luckily the only one we have tagged was in the 98 civic. Damage not too bad. Little ripple on the hood.

Vega station wagons FTW!! We had one of those when I was a kid, I think it was a stick though, 70's are a blur to me.

You mean you didn't get the M2MCHGN option on your Camaro? Yeah, I try to stay extra vigilant if I'm driving at dawn or dusk. I actually haven't seen too many deer out and about this year, saw a bunch last year

Speed Limit?? What's that. I've gotten lots of tickets in the 9 yrs of having my Firebird and I'll have to say the last one which was my second reckless got me to slow down around here. I'd only gone from 0-100 at a light with no one in front of me on a straight road in daylight. Once I'm out of VA that's different since the neighboring states don't have reckless. Speed doesn't cause most accidents anyway. Driving too slow is a cause of accidents more then speeding but mainly stupidity is the main factor.

If you want to enjoy life a little longer then don't waste time on here bringing heated yet senseless discussions. Surely after 71 years you would know people simply aren't going to listen if it doesn't fit their agenda

That's the way it is in Florida... At 15 over you will be stopped and written a ticket. At 15 over is where they say show me the money, it'll cost you $150 plus driving school for the points.....

I've seen a few topics here about cops letting drivers go or downgrading their tickets by 30-40 MPH..... SORRY don't believe it for a minute .... I know a ton of LEO's and not one of them would ever let someone go that was way over like that..... In fact most of them would go directly to jail, do not pass go.. if you know what I mean .....

I'm the same way, I give you guys 15mph, anything more than 15 over, it's a ticket. If it's an attitude, it's a ticket, if it's a school zone, it's a ticket. I try to be fair , I'll be the first to admit that I don't do the speed limit either, I can't write someone for something I do. Be responsible. If you have the need to do double the limit, take it to the track. The one's that do double the limit and more, well, you deserve what you get. I've had to make notifications to family members who lost their loved ones in traffic crashes, that is the worst part of my job. Most people think us Motorcycle officers as hard asses, but that's not always the case. Especially since I've owned Firebirds and trans am's most of my life so I know what it's like to want to drive fast.

Speeding is fine, as long as you don't go overboard. I go fast, but when there is any possible danger, I go at a speed that is safe. My street in mid day is fine to go 65 on, even though the limit might be 30. That can be said about a lot of roads, and in those cases, I see absolutely nothing wrong with speeding.

Word. Fast driving isn't a problem, stupid driving is. Going 95 isn't dangerous. Going 95 through a stop sign at night is dangerous (as some people close to Buffalo, NY recently found out). I had four friends who died in an accident where the kid was going 95. Do I still speed? Hell yeah. Do I run stop signs on blind corners doing 95? No.
