Which type of gas?

This maybe a dumb question but what type of gas are you all putting in your Camaro's?

I just got mine and filled her up twice so far. I used Regular and the gas attendent insisted I'm using the wrong gas and should use Super.

Is he right? Or did he just think my car was more expensive than it is.

You're fine; the SS requires at least 91.

Yeah, the V6 is fine with regular -- it makes no difference.

Correct, the V6 will burn pretty much anything besides diesel

Uh no. Only 91 or higher. Your dealer is dumb.

Nah, dealer's wrong there. If you look in your manual, you'll see it says the SS needs 91 -MINIMUM.- It will RUN on regular, but the engine is designed for at least 91.

If there's been regular gas in your tank, I urge you to try the fuse pull, because your computer will probably have shifted to the lower octane table. Check the forum on Engines, it is stickied to the top. The difference is tremendous. I had a gas station attendant accidentally put 7 gallons of regular in a tank otherwise full of 93, and that made the octane table jump to the lower setting. The computer is supposed to re-check this itself in case you've put in better gas, but it doesn't.

Fuse pull. Do it. Trust me.

The SS will run on regular, but only in a pinch. Don't put less than 91 octane in it unless you have to. Yor dealer is wrong. Tell him/her to read the manual.

The V8 needs at least 91 but most people who want the better performance use 93...

Agreed.

SS = Premium

LS & LT = Regular

I wouldn't take any more advice from a dealer that doesn't know the difference....

I believe all SS's are tuned for 91 so running 93 won't make it run any better than 91 unless you get it tuned for 93. At least that's how I understand it. Running 87 can kick you down into the low octane table which will have a very negative reaction on performance. Keep it 91 or above to stay with the more advanced ignition timing. Now if you have 93 available and want better performance then go get it tuned for 93 and it will run even better but then you void the warranty. Unfortunately out here in CA we only have 91 so can't get a custom tune for 93.

Yeah I hear everyone putting 93 in their cars but I live in Cali too and I was wondering why I never found anything higher than 91 lol.
