Fried, baked, BBQ'd? How do you like your Bird

I've never tried fried because I r scared- but I may go for it this year.

Last year we BBQ'd, it was delicious.

What's your preference, anyone getting adventurous with smokers, torches, welding guns, hawaiin pits or other?

My favorite way is either deep fried or smoked. Fried turkey is sssooo juicy and smoked has the most flavor imo. I really can't decide between the two.

Then again I'll take a nice ham over turkey any day.

We don't usually have turkey because my mom claims she doesn't like it. We end up with ham. I say claims because everytime we go to Chili's she ends up with the turkey sandwich.

I love turkey. I would eat it any way it was made. Yum yum!!

Good thing my bf's family makes turkey. I usually end up over there in the evening and raid their fridge!

Basting only affects the outside Gloves. Brining helps add moisture to the meat, and never trust that useless popup. The bird will be over done by 10 degrees more than should be after resting.

just my .02 from experience

I like ham too- that's usually the Christmas go to. The duck sounds great too lol. Not even lunch time of the week before and I'm already hungry for it lol

If it's coming out dry then it's cooked way too long. A deep fried turkey cooks in about 30 mins for a large turkey and baking takes about an hour and a half. Let the turkey sit for 30 mins before carving and carry over will finish cooking the turkey. Remember the proper temperature for inside the turkey is 150 degrees.

My mom fusses every year that her turkey is so dry, well no wonder you're cooking the blame thing for 6 hours .

I was talking about when it's done in the oven. I have never tried a fried turkey. I hear nothing but good things about fried turkeys though. Maybe one day I will try it, who knows.

I still prefer a nice ham though.

Some of the dry turkeys is because of cooking the stuffing on the inside. It's great that way but it's an art. My Mom has that down to perfection but it seems to be a lot easier to cook it (edit: it being the stuffing) outside.

I think I'm convinced to try the frying- every year though I get to see the PSA's of someone's house burning down though lol. I think you Southern folks may be more naturally gifted in the art of frying without killing yourselves then us Pacific NW folks.

We have a 16lb bird this year, our BBQ is pretty good sized but I'm not sure the rotisserie can handle that for a couple hours.
