But I WILL get the SS LS3 manual. I can't imagine what a modern 422hp Camaro will drive like. HOLLY COW, to think I was going to buy a twin turbo 3 liter BMW with 300hp. NOT ANY MORE.

Can't wait to smoke those German cars.
The 135i and 335i are pretty quick cars. Not necessarily faster than a Camaro SS but pretty fast. No shame in wanting one. If the SS comes in around 30k it'll be a much better deal though. Although the engine from the 335i responds well to mods from what I've heard.

And the torque guage was a unique idea, but considering it was supposed to go up to 350 lbft when the car in either trim puts out at least 395 lbft is dumb. Some other type of analog guage would be nice.

My favorite part is this,

And topping it all off, the Camaro essentially blows away its competition - the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger seem positively primitive in comparison, a couple of rough-edged, cost-cut, sedan-derived chunks of ordinary.

Agreed. I'm still debating whether to get a 135, 335, or an SS/RS, but I'll just have to wait until I can test-drive an SS/RS to decide... Dump ~$2K in either of the former 2 (or less, depending on whether you choose a piggy-back or a Dinan reflash) and either will be as quick, if not quicker, than a new SS, IMO. This is just based on different articles I've read and GM's estimates; obviously, neither have been compared back-to-back yet, but I bet it would be a close race. In the end though, I'm sure an SS will be the better performance bargain. If you used the money saved by buying the SS to build up and/or boost the engine and improve the suspension, even if the prices wind up being higher than we all hope for, an SS would likely walk all over those bimmers (at least in a straight line). I'm starting to lean more towards the SS, as the thought of 6.2L V-8 torque makes me shiver with excitement. Some practicality issues might come into play for my decision though (yeah, yeah; I know what everyone's thinking--don't start with the "if you want practicality, get a truck/SUV" talk).

I do, however, need a Camaro worthy of conversation - something I can stare back at in the driveway and the parking lot, something that will garner stares regardless of what engine is pulling it (especially since the RS looks so up-level), and most importanly I need a Camaro I can be proud of 100% beyond the time we are parted: and an LT/RS can and will provide just that.

But I'm still going to swing for an SS.
That's exactly how I feel too. I want an SS. It offers a lot of cool stuff that, if push comes to shove, I really don't need, but they'll be cool to have. I think the first comment on "things not to like" describes me perfectly. I'll probably get the V6, but I'll know I would have gotten the SS if only I wasn't a poor, newly married recent college grad hired only because they could pay me less than the retiring baby boomers.

Don't sweat it, in time you'll be able to get an SS, Z28 or whatever. I'm sure most here remember being young and broke. I sure know I was.

I'm young and broke. :(

I'll be graduating from KU this December if my advisor appointment goes well today. After that, I have to save up for a majority down payment on the Camaro to counteract the impending fees for being under 25, high insurance, and low credit. It'll be a long time or a lot of luck that gets me my Camaro.

Plenty of us will be waiting, although anyone can make that wait less if they want to make a contribution to the Camaro account.
