I thought I read somewhere that the radio has to be programmed by chevy or something for it to be installed. Am I wrong? Can I just install it myself?

It does need to be programmed.

You can physically install the PDIM yourself and save some money or just have the dealer do it all.

Anyone know if the kit comes with the usb cable to hook it up to your factory 'cup-holder' connection? If not, how do you connect? Do you have the usb come up in some other location or something?

The harness that comes in the kit adds the USB port in the same spot as the 2LT/2SS (between the AUX in and 12V outlet in the armrest).

@Iwantone2
I think so. Unless someone can give me some amazing solution to install an after-market head unit(besides going full custom in a custom shop). The only thing Im not liking about the whole situation is the dealer's communication. I get better info from the internet than from actually talking to the dealer. They tell me none of this is available, none of this is do-able. So I feel weir going in there and saying "install my pdim", "program my head unit". They should already know.

without going full-blown custom, such as ltaudio's write-up, not sure if there is anything else besides this way. are there other dealers around you that might be able to do it? the dealer where i bought my car from said they would charge the hourly rate and it could take 3 hours to install. didnt go with them. the local dealer said he would have to look at it first and then tell his guy. when he saw it, he asked "what does it do, does it add more horsepower?" that's when i went to slick rick's dealer (before they had updated their MDI software) and once I am okay financially, i'm going to go to them to have the PDIM take care of.

I feel the pain, when the local dealer has no clue to what is going on. It's pretty sad when we the consumer needs to tell them what it is, what it does, and what we need them to do to it to work.

Can the update be done at home or does the dealer have to install it?

codeman 71 - I hav SS 1 ( bought in Oct) no radio or phone controls on steering wheel. A AUX was factory. I intalled a Pdim (ordered via GM). I intalled it myself. Did not work. Dealer updated flash and said the vehicle all ready had the new update. Iphoneor ipod still does not work. From reading Matt'SS thread- the PDIM will not work with the SS1 because it does not have C & C built in with bluetooth? I probably need the Personal Audio LinK?
