scrming...

Have you done any dyno pulls after the IAT was on awhile? I've had my IAT relocated for a week now, and am wondering if the ECM would recalibrate some in that time for the constant cool air? I gained 2.4hp and lost 4lbft of torque on the initial pull after the relocation. Also, the sensor wasn't in it's new home at that time, just hanging out. Do you think it would be worth doing another pull to see if anything has changed in a week?

Btw, gas mileage has stayed the same, if not improved a bit since the relocation. I'll do the math after refilling the tank, but the car's computer is showing similiar average. What have you found out?

The really idea behind the IAT relocation is to avoid the heat soaked stock MAF/IAT sensor... So the real test would be to bring the car up to temp, then let the car sit for 20 minutes... Then do a pull with the stock IAT sensor. Then switch over to the new IAT and see what that pull looks like...

Bottom line is if you do a dyno pull where the stock MAF/IAT sensor isn't heat soaked there is no benefit to this mod... The reason my before/after dyno pulls showed a gain was due to the fact my stock MAF/IAT sensor was probably heat soaked when we did the pulls! Unfortunately I didn't bother to check! D'oah! I may rewire my IAT so I can easily switch back and forth to the stock IAT so next time I'm on the dyno I can get more accurate results...

I did two pulls with the factory IAT and then a single pull with the relocated version. Only cool down was the time it took to relocate the sensor. Also, the first two pulls were done with the engine already at temp, 190* (+/-), and after some in town driving. So I believe I got real world hp gain with the relocation. However, the torque loss concerns me, and I'm wondering if the "adaptiveness" of the ECM would have changed anything in a week.

In short, your idea to relocate the sensor does indeed free up horsepower. Gas mileage doesn't seem to be affected, except in a good way, and the car always feels punchy. So it was worth the $33 to do, lol.

hmmm... I think we would really have to dig a lot deeper into things... what temps, timing, etc. was the ECU seeing/setting...

For me, I just love being able to get in my car and have it "peppy" all the time! LOL!

i would love to do this but i don't like the fact that u have to cut your stock sensor. i saw that victor motors made a plug and play but its only for the v8

I would need something like your dashhawk thingy, right?

I just noticed too that the bay temp went up two degrees from second pull to third pull. 60.34 to 62.07, both runs were at 29.45 in-Hg, humidty went down from 46% to 44% and the SAE correction factor is .98....

Anyway, I'm thinking of going to the dyno tomorrow, lol.

Other then the resonator delete, IAT relocation, what else have you done on the intake side?

Here's a few pics....

the dyno graph

PacMan on the dyno...

look closely, the sensor is located in the snorkel part of teh air box..

a little closer...

the "y" where I taped off the extension to look factory...

We chose the snorkel as the location for two reasons, first, it's a bit more inconspicious and second, Chris believes that it'll help even more with dropping temps. Also, during the only pull with the relocation, the sensor wasn't in the snorkal, but rather hanging out by the washer fluid bottle.

Btw, that graph is of the first two pulls, before the relocation.

very cool man . I'll most likely end up either buying the Vector Motorsports premade version or I'll buy the parts and make my own as I'm a bit squimish when it comes to cutting into stock wires.

Aside from me being squimish in regards to wire cutting thanks for a great DIY/Information thread .
