Check to see if there is a fuse in the space for the "fog" lights.

[QUOTE=thebrainhart;1222396]Thats one of the first things I tried. Those "Fog" fuse holes do nothing. I've fed power into them, and they dont do anything.

Just a little brain storming, lol.
The fuse would be ahead of the switch (battery, fuse, switch then lights) so after you jump them out, I think you would have to turn the key and the switch on to see if it would work. Perhaps relacing the HID relay with another type would work. I imagine that the relay (spdt) opens the circuit to the DRL's and closes the circuit to the HID's.

I'm working on this on my car, but one thing... I removed the front wheels and the inner fender liners. Seemed easier than removing the front fascia.

Let us know how easy it is to get to!! Which wheel did you have to pull off to get to the plug, is it the right side?

I finally built up the ambition to get it done........but........I didn't remove the front facia or right wheel and fender well. I just drove it up on the wheel ramps and just loosened the 3 screws on the right wheel well. It was a bit limited on space as you can see when the soldering gun hit may hand In total it took me about and hour to get it done.

In the front view the 1st pic is just the DRLs, 2nd is DRL's (now fogs) and halo's and the 3rd is DRL's and HID's.

This would make it a little easier:

3M makes what is called a "Tap Splice". It's square and has two groves and a hinged cover. You lay one wire in a grove and then you would lay the wire for the diode in the other goove. You then close the cover and it connects the two . That way you don't have to strip the wire or do any soldering. They are used in auto wiring. That way you can remove it later if you want without anyone knowing it.

3M™ Scotchlok™ Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDCs) are easy to use and save time to install one, just squeeze no stripping or twisting.

That would make it a lot easier. I've used them many times too...just never thought about it with this install. But with soldering it is less noticeable because the zener diodes can be taped up neater.

I guess all the future moders with have it easier than us Now they don't have to take of the front fascia and now SOLDERLESS connections for the diodes

I did the DRL / Fog light conversion over the long weekend. They are really easy to get to once you remove the inner fender.

I also spliced into the halos for complete control. I put switches in the console to automatically activate the halos during the day and the DRL (fog) during the night. When the switches are off, everything is like stock.

I think you can click on the picture for a bigger view.

What happens if you accidentally leave the switches on......? Will they automatically turn off?

Nice! I might wire the DRLs (fogs) that I can turn them off during the night so I can just have the halos on. Just love how evil it looks in the night with just those on!!

The problem with those, is they often ruin the wires over time, they will corrode and often cause the wire to lose contact. I used them in my first alarm install a few years ago in my Z28, and the door locks do not work anymore due to that. I've also fixed several cars that come into my shop due to those. You can try them, and may be just fine, but I wont use them on my car.
