Question: Mailbox Slot w/ 2LT?

Hi everyone.

I've been debating on whether or not to purchase a Camaro for about 6 months now. I am not in dire need of a new car yet, but it will be soon that I will need one since my car is crusing towards 10 years of age. In my searching, I came across the Camaro and I fell in love with it. I've been trying to collect as much information about the Camaro so that when (and if) I decide to buy it (maybe very very soon), I can go to the dealer as an informed consumer.

Unfortunatly, my budget doesn't allow for me to afford the SS Trim, but I really like the Mailbox Slot on the SS. Is there an option to add that "feature" to the 2LT? It sounds silly probably to a lot of people here, but I was thinking of adding a modifiaction to the car (if I got it). The KITT (Knight Rider) Scanner Light, and I thought it would fit perfectly in that Mailbox slot. Problem is, from the pictures I've seen, it's not on the 2LT and I was hoping that I could add that feature on. Or is it just wishful thinking and I am stuck without it if I get the 2LT?

There is no option to add the mail slot. You could of course buy the bumper and have it installed after the fact.

You have two options

1. Purchase a SS front bumper cover and have it painted

or

2. You might be able to find someone here to trade with

Just the other day someone was posting pictures of their LT camaro with an SS mail slot front end on it. The car had been damaged so they had to replace the fascia, and he got the shop to put on an SS one instead of an LT.

You might catch some flak from people who think you're trying to pass off your car as a V8, but if you just like the look and you're not putting SS badges on the thing then I say go for it.

It's actually called a mail slot, not a mailbox slot. Mailboxes don't have slots. Front doors have slots--for mail.

Anyway, if you can't figure that out another option is to get a different hood. Look up the revolution super sport hood, or go to the cosmetic mod section of the forum and look for the thread about Agee market hoods and you should find some pretty cool stuff.

Good luck

buy the car and after driving it, you'll be very happy that you just might decide you don't need the mailslot after all. But if you really want one, buy a SS bumper new or used and get it painted or find someone here who'll trade. Good luck and go for it!

If you really want the "mailslot", then you would have to buy an SS front bumper.
I personally dont like the "mailslot" because it is fake, and not even functional. But to each his own...

It is also important to note that the Fog Lamps for the SS are in a different position, and might require modification to make them fit on an SS fascia. I believe the member who did this swap used the "plugs/covers" from the LS to cap the holes.

actually the bumper comes like that from GM...the fog lights are back ordered thats why the caps are on my bumper they pop right out and the harnessed is there along with the mounting bracket

if you can afford a 2LT, then might as well go all out for the SS...with patience and some looking, you can find a SS for a great price thats not that much more expensive from the 2LT...i was in the same sitution... i thought all i could afford was the 2LT and i really liked the mailslot look on the SS, but i just kept looking, not in no rush to get the car and just not too long ago i found a new 2SS for only like $2k more then what the 2LT price was that i ordered back in july....just my 2cents.

+1 If you really like the SS the 2LT is not far behind it.

These three printouts from the build your own from the Chevy website show a substantial difference between a 2LT and A 2SS. even the difference in price of a 2LT and a 1SS is quite a bit... if you got the 2 SS for 2K more than the 2LT you ordered you are comparing MSRP for the 2LT to a discounted price on the 2 SS, Right, Don't you think by that reasoning you could find a 2 LT discounted as much as the 2 SS? that would still leave you paying much less for a 2LT. Somehow I doubt you found a 2SS discounted 5K.

Right, that would be the other option - save up your cash for a few more months, make a little more room in your budget for gas & insurance, and get a 2SS instead. Once GM starts talking about the 2011 model the 2010 should be easier to find at a good price.
