Operating System Update information

I called my local dealership today and asked about the OS update. He asked for the last 8 numbers of my vin and after entering them, he tells me that my car needs no updates.

I will be getting a set of headers and Dyno tune later this month and was wanted to get any updates prior to the tune. Mostly do to all the chatter here on how the update will Fug up your custom tune.

I would appreciate any insights on the OS update.

Mike

What are your 8 last numbers. Mine is #8576 and I had a whole list of updates. Nothing to do with OS at the time.

There's at least a half dozen or more computers in the typical Camaro. What one has this so-called "Operating System"?

I thought I read that unless your having problems then they cannot bill the updates to a warranty and will charge you.

Early build updates, that's why I asked what his number was. I took mine in for these updates and thought maybe it would help w/ the herky jerkys on cold take off but it didn't. Sorry I don't have any details on what exactly what they were... my service advisor is an idiot... good thing he doesn't work on my car...

Here's the thread on OS update. You will have to read it through from the start...

This is what I found in the link above...

I've read if you bring the car in for other maintenance they would do it while that's going on.

I looked at that website that mlee provided, I had a lot of updates that were available. By Vin # 2G1FK1EJ9A9139006. The thing the service manager told me was that there is no recommended updates unless I am experiencing the issues that they address. I am experincng non of the issues.

Like previously stated, I will soon be getting a set of KooKs headers and a dynotune, I just wanted to be sure that the ECM did not need the new OS first.

I know in the Harley world, anytime there is a an ecm update the ecm is hooked up to the HD digitech and flashed with the update, this subsequently resets the ECM to stock. Depending on what ECM communication device the owner has, a thumb drive will be provided to them, in the event they need an ABS flash for example- once the scoot is updated-they can reflash the ecm with the provided tune.

My deal is I dont want to pay for a tune, that may be overwritten, if this so called new OS update is needed. Hence the reason I wanted to get this done first.

--any insight would be appreciate.
Regards,
Mike
