Oil Changes and Tire Rotations
I have noticed that several of you did your first oil change between 900 and 1000 miles. This is not something that my dealer recommended, but is it something that I should do? Did you go ahead and do your first tire rotation while you were at it? I imagine most of our rear tires go through twice the abuse in the first 1 or 2k miles than they do in the 4 or 5 after.
![]() I will hit my first 1000 next week and want to make sure she is well taken care of. |

You will find a huge difference of opinion on first oil change. Everything from 500 miles to when the monitor says to. Really up to you to decide when you want to.
Aren't the tires on the SS staggered sizes? I know my 2LT/RS has them, and since the backs are bigger then the front and directional you can't rotate tires. |

I changed my oil for the first time at 5000 Km. It was still clean as a whistle!
And the day after I changed it I hibernated it for winter :(

Not staggered if you change them
I have the 20"x9" on all 4 corners! Rotation in 2K more miles. Changed oil at 1500 miles very dirty, lots of metal. Changed diff & tranny oil around 2500 miles. Diff kind of dirty, tranny oil looked ok.

Just in case it wasn't noted. You can not rotate SS tires. But you have to remove all the summer air and replace it with winter air which is slower and denser.
Secondly...Look in the maintenance section on the vast and varying opinions on oil changes. Very thoroughly covered. But I would change the oil between 1000-1500k. I had a Blackstone labs UOA done at 980 and 3100... Changing when I did is a piece of mind. I still had alot of junk in the oil after 2 oil changes and 3900 miles.

Yeah, I was wondering what the heck OnStar was talking about when it sent me my diagnostics email "Caution: based on your mileage you may want to rotate tires soon". I was thinking Ummm... right to left?!

Yes you can rotate the tires on your SS. I have rotated mine side to side every 5000 miles. It helps to get rid of the scuffing from high speed cornering. These tires are not directional, they just have to be mounted with the "Outside" label on the outside, doesn't matter which direction they rotate.
