roller rockers??
ok so i got chucks tuning stage 2 cam package for my ss. it comes with the cam, valve springs, push rods,160 degree t stat, spark plugs, and other necessary hardware for installing these parts. my question is, with having the heads torn appart, should i have the rockers replaced with something a little stonger and maybe lighter weight? is it worth it? if so what kind(part #'s please)? i was looking at comp cams web site(since thats who made the cam) and they have some chromemoly roller rockers that are light and stonger than stock, and they also have all aluminum roller rockers for a bit more$. any help please.

The stockers are very strong.
If you want to step up and maybe gain a realistic 5-9HP you could use the Yella Terra rockers, or the MAST Motorsports are also a brand new high quality product. |

how strong is strong enough though? strong enough for the stock motor? what about if boost is added?

strong enough for what you plan on doing. rocker strength isn the real worry tho, its the potential failure of the needle bearings in them. but even that is rare to happen.
if you are going to upgrade the rockers, go to a 1.85 ratio. just double check with your cam package that the 1.85 rockers wont cause valve/piston interferrence.

one of the reason i brought up the roller rockers, is because i have seen how some ofthese are made out of aluminum and weight less than the stock ones. not only stronger but heres another case of removing weight where it may be beneficial.is there anything else anyone can think of that may be a good upgrade to be done while the heads are off? anything that will make power and make the heads stronger?

get them ported. lightweight valves are about the only other place you can skimp on weight with the heads.

For sure get them ported. You will see alot more of a difference in power especially with a new cam. Dont quote me on this but I think Texas Speed can do it for as little as $700. Some rockers are way more than that. If you have the money I would recommend doing both with some Yella Terras. But its important to pick the correct ratio size for your cam. Not only for the piston to valve clearance but the valve spring max lift limit and if the cam has a fast ramp rate you dont want to use higher ratio rockers but you still could use the stock ratio roller rockers.

![]() if you are swapping the cam, pulling the heads and wanting to upgrade, might as well send the heads off to get ported and maximize your mods. instead of doing the cam now.... then waiting a little, and doing the heads later.

Is the stock ratio 1.7?

it did. all 4 intake rocker arms on the passenger side came apart.. broke a valve stem, and a couple of double Patriot Gold Springs. If you really want some piece of mind.. get the Trunion Upgrade kit from Harland Sharp.. It's only $262 for a piece of mind that your rocker arms WILL NOT come apart..

I also had the intake rockers(offset) to come apart and scatter the little rollers all around under the valve cover. Those things are hard to find and remove! The exhaust rockers look fine. This happened after dragstrip runs on a procharger at 9 lbs boost. My builder has a kit coming in that locks the bearings in. In the pic the rocker on the left was about to come apart and on the right it blew apart.

Kinda looks like the needle bearing issues that plagued the Harland Sharp rockers in the LS7.
