Like some of you have mentioned, my guess is most of you would have done the same thing showing off. I never had any thought things would turn out the way they did or I obviously wouldn't have done it. There was a small crowd gathered around pressuring us to show what our cars could do. This is the first time I have ever done anything like this, and based on what happened it will be the last. Like I said, let Eric's mistake and damage to his Mustang be a lesson to what can happen.

You have never seen 20+ people scatter so fast when Eric hit that tree. It was like they thought they were going to be in trouble for something.

Today's event would certainly fall under the catagory "SHIT HAPPENS!"
Russ
Well put it this way if I would have done something that stupid I wouldn't have told anyone on this list.

But seriously I outgrew the teenage stupidity at about 35. Now I have two teenage sons to worry about what kind of example I am setting.

I turn 40 in August, hope I still remember how to enjoy myself after that. Russ, I drove my 68 up a curb on my 17th birthday, less than two blocks from home. Had just come from PAW and had their huge catalog on the passenger seat and a pocket full of b-day money to figure out how to spend. Lets just say it wasn't my happiest birthday. Glad that nobody got hurt.

Russ -- I'm grateful that you posted this experience -- and hopefully it will make at least one person decide not to do a burnout anywhere except the track.....

As I travel and meet with Camaro/Firebird people, I get nervous when the first burnout happens -- because it means someone's gonna try to 'outdo' the first one --

..........and invariably it has an unhappy ending.

At best: Broken drivetrain or the police show up....

At worst: someone gets hurt or worse............

Yup - we build 'em fast - the point is that we don't need to show each other - we already know that!

Be careful out there.............

Tidbit: there are two Police Officers from downriver Detroit in jail -- that's because they chose to 'turn a blind eye' to people doing burnouts and streetracing -- ........and then someone was killed....................

It ain't worth it guys and gals..............

If you're going to show off, show off in a safe place where showing off won't hurt anyone: the track. Think about it. You drive a new Camaro. You're already the rock star in the new car. Do you want to be the moron who fell off the stage, too? When someone asks you to burn out, tell them to see you at the track this weekend. You'll be too badass to do it in the lot, and they'll understand that.

That was real good. Stupid is more the word I was looking for. Control your inner stupidity. Take it to the track.

fbodfather- yep good advice, wished I would have read it a week ago!

For those of you that feel the need to remind me I did something stupid, or I am stupid, or whatever negative comment you feel compelled to make....it's really not necessary since I already admitted it. What are you doin, nagging me about it? That's a job for women, it doesn't sound good coming from a guy.
