keep in mind guys that the box is pretty big, like 9x5x1.5. it would have to go above the glove box, where if you needed to get to it, you would have to flop the glove box down. I dont see a major need for it with an aftermarket unit, only for the door lock and lighting options for the car. easiest place is under the passenger seat, unless you have a power pass seat. but im gonna try to make the box as small as i can. keep the votes comin!

forgive the ignorance, still new to the car, but why do we need to retain the stock radio functions? Are they tied into more than just radio control? I guess the circuit board extends up further north than the cd slot and enough stuff ties into the a/c controls/door locks that would be killed by cutting the board at the "dotted line" behind the cd slot. crap...why did gm decide to make the damn radio so freakin' proprietary??!?! what a pita.

well the stock radio functions arent really what we are retaining. we are retaining the stock radio for the vehicle options and controls. like the door lock, lighting, ect that has a menu that goes through the factory screen and preset buttons. the factory HVAC board is a 4 layer board, if it was a simple 2 layer, we could cut it in half and fold it over, and just solver wires over. a lot easier then what i have had to do. the factory board goes all the way from the HVAC control, all the way up to the bottom of the screen. the board is basically a big analog to CAN encoder, and also controls the screen. Metras kit is an easy solution, but you lose the factory knobs in place of pushbottons. Im not going to go into the details of their piece because its not released yet and i dont want to say too much and get in trouble. With my kit the whole stock board is moved elsewhere and is replaced by my own circuit board just for the AC section.

I will assume you know where the best place for the box is. I don't know how big it is. But I think it would be better if all those wires didn't have to go all the way to the trunk.

good point. i live in socal i didnt think about snow. the box wont be really waterproof. so looks like the trunk and the glove box are our only options. but like ive said before, its not IN the glovebox its ABOVE the glovebox. like you have to flip the glovebox down and get to it, since it wont fit IN the glovebox.
