Buy the mud flaps
We got some flurries today in the North Georgia mountains, and I thought it might be nice to go take some pictures. The local DOT had laid down some cat-litter type gravel over a few stretches of road, which I crept through at a very low speed, but still ended up with the damage pictured. Furthermore, the plastic rocker panels seem to have trapped quite a bit of the stuff too as almost 50 miles later as I go over bumps, I can still hear it falling out.
Ended up with some chips to the lower part of the front fender, chipping on the plastic side skirts and chipping on the rear fenders at the gills. Only 2,000 miles on the car. Never have had a car whose paint chips so easily! Bummer. Be careful out there! ![]() ![]()

You could always try to get some of the door edge protection, or some of the 3M clear products.
No clue about the gills. |

Wow that sucks. I am not showing this to my wife as I wanted to drive ours yesterday but she threw a fit claiming the sand and gravel on the roads would cause damage. Seems the paint should be better. I have the painted deflectors but waiting for it to warm up before installing. Hope you can get it touched up. Thanks for sharring.

that's some serious chips you got there. :( i can only imagine what your front bumper would look like if you followed someone on that road. the paint today is not made good as it used to be....something to do with being environmentally friendly. all new cars come with this thin brittle paint.

Wow, that does not look good. We don't have stuff here (well in the mountains yes) but I put them on about a month after I got the car. GM Parts Direct carries them.

Holy crap, I need to go look at mine. I ran through some sanded roads the other day and notice some sand dust stuck in those exact areas. I can't believe the paint is that brittle ???

Real Bummer man. I notice how easily brake dust gets in the same areas on mine. The wheels and body style really look cool, but not at the price of being undriveable w/o paint chips?

There is paint protection available for the Gill area. It is the same as the clear material you get for the front of the car.

I find it hard to believe that was from driving in "kitty litter" as a slow speed. If it is I would go back to the dealer, there has to be something wrong with the paint. I drive a gravel road everyday just to get out of our neighborhood and nothing has happened.

That’s why I special ordered my flares for this particular reason. Especially now so much road constructions and the overload of exaggerated salt that Sanitation lay out during the snowfall.

Mine is black too. After one early October pass down the Sky-line Drive on Mount Cheaha in East Central Alabama, it looks exactly like that. I had to pick gravel from around the exhausts and ground effects when I got home. I mentioned to someone how sticky the Pirelli tires were. I have NEVER seen anything like it. I sling sand, grit and gravel almost 100% of the time. They said I was only noticing it because the car was new. I didn't have the heart to tell them I've never driven anything over two or three years old...

Sorry dude, but I can't tell what you show is paint chips or splatters of dirt and road salt on top of the paint. It looks like the kind of dirt that I've been washing off my cars every winter for 20+ years. |
